Onwards with the flitch repairs, top sections cutout and replaced.

 

The lower flitch section repair panel is no good, its got a pressed flute in it so i had to make a new one from scratch.

Not quite Ben, i had to cover the whole sheet of metal in Krust to keep the surface rust at bay. Our workshop is not the driest building in the world but im working at making it dry.

I believe so, the repair panel i bought for my 75 Clubby was fluted as well so that i had to panel beat that flat as well.

My '93 has the flute in. I've just used the magnum panel on that and it fitted quite well. Just needed a bit of adjustment on the lip that folds under and joins to the floor. Don't think i will be so lucky when I do the step repair using their panels tho.

I've been following this thread with interest because The jobs I've been doing on my mini have been pretty much in sync with what your doing here. (I'm still a novice, so my standard of work isn't anywhere near as good). I see you fitted your step before the work on the flitch tho. I hope this doesn't mean I've messed up doing my flitch first

Fitting the flitch first before the step should make no difference. The step does not attach to it so should not be a problem.

Right things never go to plan but such is life.

 

I fitted the jacking point then spent what felt like ages drilling 1/4" holes in the new outer sill. Sprayed a load of black paint in the inner sill cavity then on went the outer sill,

 i used some of Frosts Cold Front on the quarter panel section to keep distortion to a minimum.

Quick couple hrs of messing around this afternoon. The step in the replacement inner sill does not match the original so a bit of cutting and shutting was required

There are a few more welds to dress down then that will be the end of the welding inside apart from the odd small repair to be done on the bulkhead. 

 

And now i am more than a tad jealous of the skills Alan has. He is the chap who i buy my sheet steel off and also the fabricator of the new door steps. His very very very modified mini has nice shiny door skins which i though were ali but no hand made from stainless steel along with the bottoms of the doors. I will get some pics soon but he just keeps impressing me. Nice when you own your own fab shop.
