Upwards and onwards with the inner sill, tacked in place

 

First lot of welding completed

 

Welds cleaned up

 

Then onto the inside joggled section

 

Rear heelboard bracket welded in

 

and the end of the heelboard

 

tomorrow i'll have a go at the floor pan end to see what i can do with the rust tracks there.

Beautiful work Sonikk, good idea on the joggling, bought myself one and can't wait to try and get results similar to yours, i did make a mess of Butt welding the inner sill on the mk2 project but alas, learing as I go.

Butt welding done correctly is a better finish to be honest but joggling and welding both sides is a good strong joint though Cliff. It is a bit more work but as this is not going to be a bare floor car then its not going to be an issue.

Ground all of the internal welds down today and fettled a few spots here and there so went onto the inner sill stiffener. This needed a few tweaks then it was welded in

 

Then it was onto the Companion bin and what a bugger that was. First thing at fault was the contour was not correct at the front causing this issue 

Not good so after some tweaking, reshaping and cutting around i finally got it to look like this

100% better and this shows you how much of a curve the panel needs to be to fit on the B post

 

So from now on it will be Heritage only for me for this particular panel.

Thanks, its a bit of a ball breaker this car as it has been in an accident and poorly repaired which does not make my life any easier. Also the rust is everywhere from where its been stored in a damp container so that has not helped at all.

Funny issue with the companion bin we had the same with the heritage one that we put in the lads car had a struggle fitting it in
Got there in the end tho

Well both of these were M Machine panels and were too big and not formed correctly. I think I will have to give them a bell to let them know what a pain they are to fit.

Well the thing is i have two lots, now before anything happens i will trial these new ones on Wills mini. Then if they are good then we can see what happens with the others. If these are good then getting more will not be an issue. These are only the step section though so the curved ends will need to added but that is easy to do by just cutting these and adding the extra metal.

Great work so far Neil, if these pressed door step panels do become available I would love to get hold of a couple. I have tried to use the ones from Magnum,....

Accident damage that has not been repaired properly and a poor Heritage quarter panels does not make for a happy Neil.

 

The quarter will not clamp up to the B post properly no matter what i do. I know have a some serious skin pinning going on to try and get round that little problem, plus some bending and reshaping. So at the moment there is no gap at all at the back of the door and this is with no shims. So once i have reskinned the door i will look at sectioning the front of the quarter panel if needed.

And this is the poorly formed B post section of the quarter panel. This has now had some loving tender care with a hammer and block.

 

The new door step is good and will only require some minor fettling
