I don't get road rage. As a rule. But I totally lost it today. After my third attempt to by-pass the M6 gridlock, I finally gave in and had to join it. Came down the slip road and the motorway was literally crawling. Slower than walking pace. Couple of cars in front of me. It was such a battle to be let in it was infuriating. I ended crawling to the end of the slip road (which was then coned off for roadworks so no hard shoulder!!) and had to get over as I had nowhere else to go.
Had an old git and his missus in a Fiat Panda who had been crawling along side me. I had my indicator on but the b****d was just not going to let me in. Was literally trying to get into the lorry in front he was that desperate not to leave a gap. Having sat in solid traffic for the best part of 3 hours, all my reasoning disappeared, and I opened my window and just screamed at the guy that he was total f****g a****le!!! I just kept going. I did not care if we had a prang or anything. I was just so angry that the traffic was hardly moving and he was being an unbelievably selfish, stupid git by not letting one single car in front of him. Like it would make any difference at all! I think he realised that I was just not going to back down and, if didn't give way, we were going to collide so he finally stopped but then hung on the horn for about 10 seconds. I could see his wife in the rear view mirror slap his hands.
I have never witnessed such appallingly selfish behaviour on the roads as I did today. We were all in the same boat but there were so many petty minded drivers determined that no-one was going to "push in" in front of them. Really pathetic. Even when I got onto the M5 I saw at least half a dozen instances where drivers in the slow lane refused to get over or slow down to allow the slip road to filter in. Just so rude and aggressive. Why are people like that? Has it got worse? I'm glad I wasn't in the Mini.
Grumble over. Never driving up North again ....
