Why do fire stations have firemans poles? Why not build the place on one level?

Because transit via gravity from upstairs to downstairs is far quicker than legging it from one part of the building to another?

Has anyone on here tried the cinnamon challenge? (Look on youtube if you don't know what I am on about)

I ain't, but I have snorted a line of white pepper thanks to my babysitter when I was about 8. I learnt my lesson.

But they still have to run to the Pole! No quicker than through an open door, in fact it has to be slower. If the pole went to a sunroof arrangement that would be a different matter, perhaps I should call in to my local station and suggest I adapt their appliance with my angle grinder.

I think they have poles a) because they're fun and b) they can pretend to be Batman.

Why do ITV's adverts for the world cup say 'this is going to be emotional'?

For christs sake, its 22 legs kicking a bag of wind up and down a piece of green field.

What's emotional about that?

My Girlfriend says the only thing she get emotional about on world cup season is when she gets fed up with everyone going on about the bloody thing.

before it starts I know what you mean, but once it's going its a different matter. Suddenly it IS important even though you know we have little chance. And when they score........ And I am not what you would call a massive fan by any amount. When you are at a game I think its a collective experience thing to large extent (like seeing nirvana live rather than on the TV) but what happens is beyond sense. But then for me once it's over its over, I am not miserable about it if we lose.

I have a circuit board that I built to test next week. I don't do electrics as I am a mechanical engineer so lets just say my confidence of it working is low/realistic.

For no good reason I came up a rhyme to sing while testing it (sing this to the tune of pop goes the weasel)

One home made circuit board,

20 amps of current,

One small electrical short,

BANG goes the MOSFET.

Make sure that the blue smoke does not leak out or you will be in trouble.

I am going to stand well away from it when I switch it on and be ready with a fire extinguisher. I will also be trying this outside so in the event of smoke I don't set all of works smoke detectors off.

I've been told by the mechatronics lecturer at the university we work with that it will most likely be the diodes that go bang or the capacitor.

It was kicked if I remember correctly, hence why Bogus 2 was built a few years back by minisport.

Why when using words like "progress", "progressing" and "positive results" in general terms it means that things are well or getting better, but when they are used in a medical context, ususally things are bad and getting worse. O_O
