I hope all his hard work produces the power he says it will. Quite impressive.

Someone in Australia, is also claiming a Yamaha FZ750 5 valves per cylinder can also be used. But I think you can discount, the alloy weslake copy (28) as lots of people, had there fingers burn't with this one..........

The SC head is well finished & has decent sized ports, unlike the old AKM iron heads which had channel tunnel sized ports.
The cheap alloy 7 ports from Pierce need quite a lot of work to them to get best performance, unless you buy from MED as they do the work for you, for a price .....

I'm fairly sure the port size on the SC 7 port is 36mm.
The inlet port size on the AKM head is actually 40mm so I'd hardly call that channel tunnel sized ports!

You're correct in your sizes, but to say they are not much bigger is hardly correct. The SC head has 36mm ports, and the AKM 40mm. That's an area increase of 23.45% !! In terms of airflow & gas speed that's a huge difference.

All I was saying is that I'd hardly call the port size on the AKM head Channel Tunnel Sized at 40mm. A-lot of people quote the AKM head at 45mm!
My AKM 7 port is very driveable from low down with plenty of torque and that's with running a SW-10 cam and 1.5 rockers. The head was also very well finished and it also gives you the flexibility of running carbs or injection.
I would go on and say the SC 7 port is a very nice piece of kit and as AC Dodd has said due to it's smaller barrel size would be more suited to road use, but that doesn't mean the other 7 port heads are not as good, they all have their own specific strengths and weaknesses.
That all being said Phil I very much enjoyed having a look at your 7 Port Turbo Engine build and look forward to your next instalment! Some very nice work there! I bet you can't wait to get that on the road!
Oh and if anyone from Specialist Components is reading this I'd more that happily except a 7 port head from you to build a nice engine up to pop into another Mini. I could then do a direct comparison, purely for research purposes of course (cough)!
