I think we all probably have tales like that - the biggest one of mine was not buying the absolutely bog standard, mint MK2 RS1800 that I was offered for £5K! Instead I bought another rally car which is no longer with us! The RS would probably be worth 6 figures now...!! The other one was choosing to buy a Porsche 924 instead of a lovely Signal Yellow Mk2 Mex, on the basis that I'd had enough Escorts & fancied a change! The Porsche was an absolutely hideous car, & after I'd spent as much on preparing it for hillclimbs as I'd paid for it I decided I hated it so much there was no way I was going to compete in the thing & sold it for less than I'd paid for the roll cage! That Mex would be worth £15K now (if I hadn't written it off of course...!!)

The company of which I was a director did all the detailed chassis design and body integration on the Ford RS200 Group B car. This was because the technology was new to Ford and I had a large aerospace design team who were very capable on that sort of demanding structural design. I was offered a new RS200 for £20000, but declined as I had a 1973 Carrera 2.7RST. I still regret not buying the RS200, but I did get to drive a couple of them at the Boreham test track.
