Hello,

Refitted my standard mk1 wheel today and tried to fit the push horn centre. I think I have all the bits, wire up the middle, the spring, brass ring, rubber sleeves etc.

The problem is the push horn centre does not make contact with the spring so has no resistance. I have the plastic surround, motif, chrome retainer and also the copper dish so all correct there i think. Its almost like the wire up the middle is too short or the steering wheel is not going the whole way home (although it does seem home) if i pull it up any higher, it pulls the wire through the rubber and stops making contact with the brass ring. Im sure im missing something obvious.

maybe the pictures will help :-)

thanks Dave

Assuming that is the correct horn push for a Mini, what is the thing under the top contact or copper dish as you call it?

Also, the pressing on the copper dish does look a bit on the deep side.

I do believe it is all correct, it was all the same parts that came on my mk1, although with it being a non runner, I can not guarantee it ever was right to start with.

Does anyone know a measurement from the end of the column to the end of the clear horn top hat, mine is around 22mm.

Under the top contact is just the lower contact, mine is hex shaped rather than circular that the repro ones seem to be. Is that what you where referring to?

Thanks

Looks like your steering wheel is not all the way home. On both my Mk1's the thread protrudes through the nut by around 1/8"

Engineer blued up the steering wheel and that is going the whole way home so, I cheated and extended the wire. works fine, but still puzzles me what i have assembled differently :-)
