Hello, I was wondering if anyone could give some advice on a problem im having with the clutch on my mini? A few weeks ago i adjusted the clutch due to it slipping a bit, cured the slipping but ever since i need to pump the pedal a couple of times to disengage the clutch properly. I have tried everything, changed the slave cylinder, bled it at least 10 times, adjusted the throwout nuts etc. properly, checked all linkages for excessive play but the problem persists. Does anyone have any ideas because it's driving me mad now? Thanks

If pumping the pedal enables you to disengauge the clutch it points towards air in the system still, have you had a look under the dash and checked the bottom of the clutch master cylinder? have you set the clearance on the clutch arm correctly, if you have to big a gap here it will reduce the overhaul pedal travel.

its an easy change, the hard part is getting the pin out the link from the pedal!

Well, i've been working on the clutch problem all day and the damn thing now seems worse than ever. Ive got to pump the pedal a few times to get any pressure at all. Have bled it a few more times, used a Gunsons eazybleed and not a bubble has come out. Am starting to lose the will now, could it be the master cylinder even though nothing is leaking from anywhere?

Get someone to help you and push the clutch pedal once all the way to the floor and whilst doing this measure the lateral movement of the top of the clutch arm. It MUST move a minimum of 0.5". If less than that there is a problem with the hydraulic system, assuming the stops are set correctly and the clevis pins are not excessively worn. Your symptoms point to either slave or master cylinder.
The clutch on the Mini is quite critical in terms of settings and movement.

Hi, it sounds like the hydraulic oil is leaking past the internal seal, which you are only pushing a small volume of oil, when this happens there won't be air bubbles because it is enclosed from atmosphere, I am not sure if you can change the slave cyl. seal !
