Fantastic, something Id love to do one day! My other hobby lies in home audio and Ive built some high end systems, mostly use Spotify premium as my source which would be awesome on something like this! Can I make one suggestion though, standard laptop soundcards are the epitome of cheap, they really dont do any decent music source justice. If you by pass the internal soundcard entirely by using a USB DAC (digital to analogue converter) you will notice a huge increase in sound quality, noticably the tightening of the bass and more pronounced mids. I can recommend a number of DAC's at different prices, Ive used many :)

Cheers for the comment.

I had thought of using a DAC but i had a budget when i built it which i went over by as it was, hence the rubbish cabinet!!

I will be looking at re-building this juke soon and would love to hear what DAC's you would recommend.

Cheers

Ben

Bit of a thread revival.

The jukebox survived the flood but has got damp and looks tatty now so i have decided to give it a freshen up. As i had to strip some of it out to get the laptop part out to service it, i thought i would go the whole hog and strip it right out and re-cover the cabinet in something more tasteful than wood vinyl

So here is the strip out.

Excuse the poor pictures but i had to use the webcam!!

I have ordered some silver vinyl to refresh it with so that should be here at the weekend so i will update once its back together if anyone is interested

Cheers

All done now.

Came out pretty well. certainly looks more modern!

Just need to come up with something to break up the sea of silver!

Bit of a thread revival.

I have been thinking alot lately about producing a small amount of these touchscreen jukebox's to sell.

The design would be more along the lines of the NSM Icon 2 in this link  http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2a4ae546e8 But would be a bespoke set up designed by me.

The cabinet would most likely be constructed from steel and would have an internal amplifier using external speakers. It would run the Album player software that i am running on my jukebox as it's the best out there.

I'm just looking into costings right now and of course i need to know i would be able to sell them if i do. I won't make a huge profit because they are quite expensive to make but i am not worried about that so much,it's more for the sport than making loads of money.

If i do produce any, i will document the build here if anybody is interested. It will be built entirely from scratch.

Loving this! So simple and a great use of old broken bits to make something pretty cool.

Hi Ben,

How did you get on with costing up a "production" model? I could be interested if it turned out to be viable!

Hi Ben,

How did you get on with costing up a "production" model? I could be interested if it turned out to be viable!

The main stumbling block is the screen.

Forget new ones because they are a fortune but when i built mine, the screens were readily available used in good condition for less than £100.

When i started costing it up, there were no such screens available anymore.

I did look into using an overlay kit which is a digitizer that sits over a standard flatscreen but i thought it might not be very relaible.

If you are serious about one, i can look into it again for you.

Cheers for the interest

Ben

What are the controls on the side? USB ports and stuff?

Yes. it's 3 usb ports, and memory card readers. makes it much easier to update and add more tracks without having to take the unit off of the wall.

The slot below is for a dvd drive but i removed it to replace it after it stopped working and never put another one in.

Beside that are two 3.5mm jacks for microphones for karaoke and one for headphones.

I currently have almost 16000 tracks on it as well as music videos which all play through the jukebox software.

When i rebuild it next year, it will probably be all new including a 32" touchscreen mounted portrait so the whole front of the unit is screen. Plus i want to use lots of lights too

Ooooh then you could use it to watch stuff as well! A 32" screen is big enough for most rooms.
