Hi,

I have always wanted a jukebox and was extremely jealous when I found out my mum and stepdad had inherited one. It's and NSM Wizard CD jukebox and its fantastic!

Then I got to thinking, I could easily make a touchscreen jukebox myself so I started looking around on the net for a windows based jukebox software and found one called album player which is a great piece of software and supports full touchscreen and is very easy to use plus looks great.

Next I needed to sort out the jukebox itself so I started making a list of what I needed.

A reasonable laptop

a touchscreen monitor

an amplifier

a decent pair of speakers

A usb hub for connectivity purposes

A large hard drive

and some sort of jukebox shaped cabinet to house it all in!

So I made a start ordering all the bits. I found a 17" ELO touchscreen off of a supermarket till on ebay so I bought that and I already had a decent modern Acer laptop which had a broken screen so that was perfect for the job. I bought an external USB sata hard drive caddy and a 250GB sata hard drive to store all the music on and laid it all out on the desk. I installed Windows 7 x64, 4GB ram and of course the album player software.  When it was up and running, I added all of my music collection and tested it out. It worked really well and sounded great.

Unfortunately, by the time I had bought all of the components I was skint so I had to make a cabinet out of an old bathroom cabinet! it was free and about the right size so it will do for now.

Soon I will start building a custom cabinet for it and im hoping it will be spectacular with neons and proper jukebox themed graphics etc instead of poundshop stick on wood!!

So here it is. let me know what you think. excuse the poor photos!

That is very good, I think the only reason 'chop' likes it is because of the wood effect

Album player. from www.albumplayer.com You can download the demo for free which is what I did to try it out then if you like it, the licence costs about £25 and worth every penny.

The only difference between the demo and full is that there is a 15min continuous play limit on the demo so got a bit annoying stopping half way through a song!!

The sound card is the standard on-board laptop jobby and I have a 3.5mm jack to RCA lead that plugs into the laptop's headphone jack then the RCA end of the lead plugs into a mini amplifier that you can see mounted in the side of the cabinet in the photo's above. The volume is adjusted using the volume knob on the amp itself and the speaker out ports are wired into spring sockets in the bottom of the cabinet. then you simply connect the speakers to the spring sockets and away you go. quite a simple set up and the sound is very good.

Cheers
