Loving the sticker bombing (never a big fan before) and you were lucky to get such a solid car in the first place. Big reps man!

so i think i got some good news about the engine today, i messaged the guy asking about the knocking noise and what cam it had... well, heres what i sent:

"Hi mate, ive got a couple of questions about the engine as i am considering giving it a rebuild, do you know what cam it has? i assume standard? also, i couldnt help but notice a knocking noise in the video and was wondering if you knew what it was? cheers"

this was the response i got:

"its got an MG metro cam in it, if your going to rebuild it use the kent fast road cam, best of both worlds then, theres no knocking from the engine at all, thats all the carb you can hear, the crank is good and so are the pistons. if youre keeping it 1275 do the cam and spent the money on the head, it was skimmed last year so maybe bigger valves, double valve springs etc, cheers"

so... im feeling pretty reassured by that  :proud:, he seems to know his stuff, pretty sure im just going to go ahead and drop it straight in as it is and see what happens. also pretty chuffed to find out its got a metro cam  :D ... apparently lol

Thought it sounded like the carb. You probably wont see a 'huge' difference in changing the cam, i doubt the slight performance upgrade of a mild road cam would warrant the £200+ it would cost. Good that you found out about it though, least you're not in the dark with it any more.

this helps put some perspective on it. The 286 cam is very lumpy at low revs, i've read a lot about how its not ideal for road use etc, so i was going to use a 266 in my engine. I found out i had an ST 510 in the engine so there was no point in replacing the camshaft, as it is very similar.
