Had to take some time out to make a pond cover, because my toddler is getting a little adventurous,
But just quickly put the steering rack and subframe on.
Looks like the nice hole I cut out for the gearbox is neatly filled by steering rack.
Bugger.

I'll offer the engine and box up to make sure, but looks like I'll have to move engine and gearbox mounts forward.
Not too bad, a unless I have to re-do the bottom arms too...
We'll see

Im sure some who have DIY framed a k-series have moved the steering rack inwards by modifying the toeboard area.

Cheers Jordie.
That's very possible. I could just cut out that whole bit and re 'glass it back in a couple of inches further back. Might need longer track rod arms tho...

You shouldn't need to really mine is tight but I've got about 10mm clearance

Fingers crossed...
A quick google csme up with triumph "Spitfire ends, which are the correct thread (1/2" unf). they are only 5mm longer though (90mm end to end)" mini ones are 85mm (1/2" unf).
Mini shops sell long ones too, for cars running lots of negative camber.

Gearbox does hit the steering rack
F23B2B17-B624-4138-AB0C-4A9C1E74C711_zps

I could have moved all the engine mounts forward, but engine would have been way out past the wheel line and I fear it would have handled *******.
Plus the pg1 driveshafts would have fouled the frame in this position.

So I cut round the steering rack and moved it back. I just put a couple layers of grp in the middle and have left it to set. I just want to hold it in place for the time being.

The normal thing to do with the k series is to bring the bottom arm mount backwards and modify the standard bolt you may find your mounts will just shear off

Agreed. I have no intention of leaving that be as it is. It definitely needs beefing up. Current plan is to link it all up replacing the cut out part of the subframe tower with a removable alternative.

...although what you've done there does make loads of sense if drive shaft clearance is gonna be tight....
