I recently bought a MK2 golf as a new daily driver.

1017285_10153018264570647_1333031136_n.j

It had its problems but is sound body wise, needs a good polish.

Problems

- high idle / running on intermitantly

- wiper stalk broken

- bit of interior trim missing

Today i sorted the wiper stalk with a new one, rewired the mess that someone had done putting in the CD headunit and wired in all speakers, including 2 6x9s on the rear shelf.

The 6x9s were given to me, they are magnet brand with a seperate unit just before the speaker which splits the tweeter and speaker freq.

Head unit now turns off with ignition, but memory 12v feed doesnt seem to work, I will have another look when I get a new headunit fitted.

Ive had a spy at the engine, theres a rubber mount under the carb/throttle body which is split and loose. I will replace this and then see if idle improves etc.

Was that at halfords? I noticed they were on sale at £129 last week and was very tempted.

That's a great price, how did you find it at that price?

Put the high idle down to a mix of poor vac pipes/hoses, rubber block split between inlet and carb and also autochoke not working correctly due to water flow into inlet manifold. Ive ordered inlet gasket with coolant seal also, inlet to carb rubber block and new pipes. I hear removing the inlet can be abit of a pain, so best get the mini out if it turns out to be awkward.

Fitted air filter at dinner time, but was far too hot to do anything else.

Got plugs to change later this evening if it cools down. Also got a new temp gauge sender to fit to get my temp gauge working again.
