well Haynes says to block the open end of the thin pipe, but if you get a steady 1000rpm then shouldn't hurt leaving it open..

 

I normally just stick my thumb on the end :)

I have a 2" piece of pipe with a rivet in the end I slip over where the vac pipe came off from
