So as the title says I'm looking for an engine builder around Kent, preferably as local to dartford as possible.

Again what are they like money wise? I got qouted £400 to have my engine honed and bored and a set of new rings fitted by a company near me

Doesn't seem like a bad price. Guessing that price is with you supplying the pistons?

That's just for the machine work and he said would also vary depending on whether I have press fit pistons or circlip type, I'm guessing as mine is a pre A+ they're probably pressed and more expensive

Depends on the pistons used more than the engine they're going into.

assuming its just to the next size up, ie not going from say 1275 to 1380, then the boring and honing you can get done for less than 150.

Aye, for machine work thats about right. But for a build as well, no chance.

A 998 +20 thou gives you 1014cc. +40 though brings you to 1030cc.

Are you wanting a rebore because the original bore is knackered? Or for additional power?

If its the latter your gonna be gaining very little!

Well it was a mixture of both really, the engine ran okay but wasn't perfect, the head was knackered and it had a really noisy timing chain, so while it was out I thought I'd build a nice small bore fast road engine
