Well, not too much to report of late......

Been a bit idle and not been going up the workshop much lately.

Went up the other day while I was waiting for  someone to pickup a set of wheels and a few other mini-related bits, so finally welded up the extra steering column brace. to be honest it's a hell of a lot stiffer now but now the cross beam flexes slightly...and that's 1 1/4" seamless 4mm thick steel tubing..... I guess I'm never going to eliminate ALL of the flex. It should be better if (heaven forbid) I should ever front end or roll 'Chop' >_<

Also welded the first of the two harness braces for the rear crossmember... It was a real swine to weld as the space was REALLY tight and I needed to get into all manner of positions that a 40-something overweight bloke is NOT designed to be able to get into ;D .... but 1 is done.....even had to result to welding right-handed EEK! O_O

So..... I'm still on for IMM later in the year and hopefully finish the rest of the bracketry soon, so I can begin the first of the 'dry builds' to make sure I've worked out everything OK :proud:

Will need to cut out one half of the rear seat base and a companion bin to give me the space for the 'bed-conversion' although the water and cooking side of things I've already sorted :D .

Just need to sort out the glass now and I think I've got everything covered....

Cheers all, Andy

Last night's 'tinker time' involved slicing out half of the old seat base and lowering the front edge so it doesn't kick upwards at the front and lowering the companion bin top so it would be level with the new base.

The cut base then had a downward facing 90 degree return on it to add a little more strength and it was all zipped back together again with the welder.

The new half seat base is now level with the original front seat crossmember, so I can place the rear covered seatbase cover that I made ALONG the passenger side of the car, turn the benchseat back cushioning along the seatbase cover and swing the whole front seat squab through 180 degrees and put it across the front footwells.

INSTANT (ish) bed for shows etc.

I'll post some photos if anyone is interested?..... Anyhow, after all that cutting and welding, I needed a little rest.... and I'm happy to report that the conversion is comfortable- as my snoring from the garage for the next 1 1/2 hours will testify.....

It's quite comfortable for one, but I fear that it's going to be REALLY 'cosy' for 2..... If I ever find anyone daft enough to want to share ;D

Just come back from Bristol Classics autojumble....

Not too much there, but had a chat with Stuart King from 'Send him Victorious'.  He's making some great mini weekend bags and general classic car/ camper type upholstery, bags/ cushions etc. Find him at www.sendhimvictorious.co.uk   Top bloke and he's hopefully doing me a great price on a custom coloured bag for 'Chop'

On another note, picked up a few bits I needed to finish some odd bits.... and a new custom 50's style sunshield.... (see below)

Oh! You all noticed it's currently a rear valance ;D  Well, with a bit of cutting, bending, welding etc, I'm sure it'll do the job O_O

Back to the metalwork again.. I love it!!

Thanks for those kind words 'Chop' was a pleasure to meet you. Having just looked through the pictures of all the hard work you've put in, I'm feeling kind of under pressure to deliver something outstanding for you! (I now understand what your car looks like -  before I saw this, in my head I was imagining 'timber' as in a Clubman woody!). Will keep in touch via PM. Now get back to that metalwork!!!

Some piccies of my latest hammering and banging....

Started with a rear valance and after 3 hours of trimming, shortening, folding and welding.....

I ended up with a 50s style steel sunvisor.

It's still not right, but you get the idea ;D
