So with having a little thread bump from you guys i decided to get another job underway on the metro...

Today i removed the front and rear carpets on a permenent basis until i,ve sorted its interior out, this however turned into a rather large job...

On a mini its a simple case of Grab'n'Tug! On the metro however i,ve had to remove the front seats and seat belt mounting bolts just to get the front bit of it out! and the rear...Pfftt near impossible to do, the rear seat bolts were by far the biggest pain in thee rear i,ve come across in a while, becaue its been undersealed on the underside the bolts are all coated in it! which cloggs u the already rusty threads which have been tighten to Blacksmith forearms Spec :mmkay: Sweating all over my interior haha

Found a few shock horrors along the way, pictures of progress below....

Seats out:

DSCF2401_zps5ccefb2d.jpg

Butchered carpets out (I didn't damage these by the way, previous owners have ripped a chunk out here and there grr):

DSCF2422_zpsabf0aed6.jpg

DSCF2400_zps2445c922.jpg

Ended up giving up on this little seat with one bolt holding it in:

DSCF2419_zps8e347b7f.jpg

Rear crash damage better view:

DSCF2421_zps113380a6.jpg

DSCF2420_zps88b16113.jpg

Now, lifted up the front carpet and joy of joy found a few patches O_O :

DSCF2409_zpseda64da3.jpg

DSCF2408_zps42c6503a.jpg

Atleast he's protected his repairs with some paint :gimme:

Was mainly taking the carpet out to see for rust but the only bits were here and at passenger side:

DSCF2403_zps09df8384.jpg

And some light surface worm along the floor/sill edge:

DSCF2404_zps4e2a5bb9.jpg

Also the rear inner mounts for the front seats have both been welded up from i presume breaking or coming un-captive:

DSCF2406_zpscb4751c9.jpg

DSCF2407_zps8cd5a96d.jpg

I'l make new mounts to weld in at some point.

Super clean crossmember shot and some interior floor shots:

DSCF2405_zps3a00cbec.jpg

DSCF2413_zps6989ddc1.jpg

DSCF2414_zps0e2fc418.jpg

Wondering wheather to rub this down smooth and paint for ease of cleaning:

DSCF2424_zps3269ebeb.jpg

DSCF2423_zps62d89ebc.jpg

TaDa, one sand blaster ready to plumb up and use hopefiully without too much trouble:

DSCF2425_zpsc536af27.jpg

Right so today has been a sweaty few hours stripping...or an interior ;), and found some work to do on the little machine but still very happy with the condition of the floors, im going to leave the rear sound deadeding down but rip the front up because i think theres water under there so best to clear it and start a fresh.

Cheers

Cliff

If I spray car at work with underseal I used wd40 to wipe of any over spray, seems to act like thinners on it..

I'm still surprised mine has the seat belt warning dash light, I have a standard model which has no glovebox/door Pockets or passenger side mirror, your being the VP has everything! jealous of the steel wheel chrome beauty rings! Cant find any for sale anywhere  :ohno:

Yeah i can safely say that petrol is the best stuff to remove underseal, if you look at the picture of the leaked fuel i posted you can see its underseal type colour, so as it dripped down it removed the underseal from that area (which has already rusted! Grr) and left me to clear up the work Booo

Ahh yeah i had a look for the lght and sure enough its right infront of me haha, think i need an eye test haha

Everything ? hmm well i do now feel lucky :proud: , yeah i havent seen any up for sale either, if i find some i'l post a link as i don't need anymore, although a few tabs have broken so i'l have to fab up some new ones

Cheers

Here is a riddle.

If I get in my car the seat belt light is on and if i put my seat belt on it goes out,

If i have a passenger in the car and I put my belt on it stays on till the passenger also puts there belt on.

I dont know how it works out I have a passenger, I have not looked in the passengers seat to see if there is a sensor, but this is a 82 standard metro i cant see it having a passenger sensor!!! must have a switch they sit on I guess  O_O  sounds far to fancy!!

I think its, because there on the shame wiring and the seatbelt sensor which knows if your wearing it on not is actualy in the seat not the belt slot in part.

Yesterday when i took the seats out i saw the wire, looked under the seat and saw the bullet connecters running to a little pad in the centre of the seat, when you sit on it it senses you and something else must know about he seat belt, seen the system used in modern cars like my sisters 5 door astra which has the same thing, if you go over a certin spped it starts beeping telling you to buckle up, for a 30 year old car its really really fancy

Ah so they do have a seat sensor, I cant believe mine all works!!!

Tripmeter on the other hand is stuck solid and no intermittent wipers which I miss.

Just noticed in your pics you got, a cigarette lighter and a radio!!! (and more switches to the right on the column)  everything!!!

Wow, the basic models must have had a drivers seat and a speedo at best by the sounds of things  , although less things to go wrong would be nice, last week the heater and wipers packed up plus the whole right hand column stalk, turns out it was only a in-line fuse under the bonnest so fixed that and also fixed the washer jet which was blocked by blowing air back down the line, three very simple fixes but still satisfying :D

Might as well ask folks oopinions, should i buy new outer sills and remove the old ones, treat the cavity and spot the new back on ? i feel i should atleast drill a hole to inspect, seeing as i,ve no idea on condition and if i do what little rust there is means there will be less of a job in the future i.e inner sill rotted from within, appreciate any opinions or advice on the matter

If there not showing signs of rust bubbling on the outside I would just drill some holes and spray them internally with wax oil, need to do that to mine too. I use this attachment.

I dont like changing panels, as if there non genuine they suck, and it almost impossible the get them sealed up like they did in the factory. ( I weld rusty old vw's for a living)

Yeah just had a quick look at the vents at the bottom and theey just crusted way with underseal i'l clean back an area around a vent and take a picture, i have use of a bora scope aswell so might drill a small hole and stick it in to see before ripping panels off

Wicked stuff. Shame it had been hit though. Silly moo!! And good god. remoulds? Must be historic. Colways? My dad ran them on his rally cars because they were cheap, really soft and grippy, but lasted 2 events. On his gravel tyres, he could pull rubber off if driven hard enough to make them mega warm. Please don't go gold. banded steelies, and drop it. all it needs imo. and can be made original quickish.

Get some of that peely underseal off too. it just traps rust, water, salt, crap etc, and rots it quicker. Why my cars rot in corners, because the underseal hardly ever sticks properly.

And was that tig expensive? I want to learn before september, as it will give me some pre experience before I start my apprenticeship in welding and fabrication lol.

Cheers Nathan, ahh yeah silly Female woof indeed haha (No offence o anyone, meant only as an egg yoke)

No these ar Kingpin, Only the best worse ;D

Ahh finally an all out opinion haha, i'l stick with sliver painted wheels for now then, can't be dropped any further haha.

Yeah i think i'l do that, start a fresh layer of paint and protection just to be sure, fingers crossed its not half bad

Just shy of 300 ponies, its also a stik welder (MMA) and plasma cutter but TIG was the main reason its been bought, we can weld steel aswel as ally with it so kinda renders the big Barker welder into storage (Sad times, but true), should be able to pick a cheap 2nd hand one up off of e-bay i would have thought.

Best of luck with the course Nath, Earning'n'Learning ;D  :bah:

I would not buy a cheap scratch start tig before starting an apprenticeship,  wait to be shown how to do it right from the very start, so you dont teach your self incorrect method/habbits and then have to relearn once you get to school.

Yeah, fair point. And I dont have 2 or 300 hundred quid to burn at the mo as it's all being plowed into the mini :P

Lol, kingpins! Not heard of them for ages!

And yeah, get some por15 on the go. apparently, once you turn, you never go back?!

And standard works just as well too. Will get pics of my dads ex metro rally car if your interested? mk2 though iirc. Even had a turret conversion at the rear with mini shock absorbers

Hi again foolks,

Having gotten a sand blaster i thought id try it on a piece of the metro needing a re-furb, so i got the kenlow fan shroud and plug in the air line.......What happened is this (Picture below), but what you dont see is the media blasted all of the garage and into my skin!, the media that was in it when we got it was used for truck chassis so pretty hefty gear, we now have some lighter media from machine mart that works great, although before i go blasting ought else i'l be make a cabinet  :

DSCF2434_zps8f91b5c7.jpg

So recieved this a on borrowed basis from a good friend of mine who's currently doing a Honda engined mini FWD which looks stunning but isnt even finished, anyway...back to reality haha:

DSCF2440_zps125d6462.jpg

DSCF2439_zps366a2c7b.jpg

DSCF2436_zps8a63b029.jpg

Took me three atempts at pumping it level, ended up parking on the pavement as it was the only level ground round here:

DSCF2437_zpsc2aba572.jpg

DSCF2438_zpsa2b1c68e.jpg

Looking at outer sill prices im going to get a pair and do them just to be sure all is well.

Ta Ta for now peepers

Cliff
