with all ancillaries the c20xe engine and block weighs only slightly more that the a-series lump. ditching the heavy cast alloy inlet tract and using the lighter bike TB's, weight gain will be marginal. i think also the allspeed subframe is lighter than the standard mini frame.

Maph,

I can't wait to see this little belter! The colour choice is inspired- I'm all in favour of original flat colours! What wheel/tyre combo you gonna run? Arches? Brakes? This one's got me salivating, it should be an animal. If you need any help- even if it's just another pair of hands to hold a spanner- you know where to come....

D.D.

i'm just finishing off the front end, welding, seamsealing etc and will drop the subframe out tomorrow to spray the the engine bay/inner wings (i'll get more pic tomorrow).

the pic attached is the gsxr750 inlet rubbers (s/h off ebay) so i can mount the TB's on to the weber manifold. i went to my local bike shop to ask about these inlet rubbers - £160 for 4inc clips and vat :geek:

engine bay now done and just building the front hubs up with new ball joints and bearings, and new metro vented set up. i'm also aiming to drop the engine in allow the inlet/exhaust/rad/gear selector/alternator install. hopefully this will be done before this friday as i'm having a hernia repair done (wasn't due till october but had an opening...lol)

i've left the upper bulkhead unprepped as i'm not sure how much room i've got for the bike Tb's on the weber manifold. once i know the clearance, all the unecessary bulkhead holes will be welded up and smoothed to an external finish.

hi all, this will be my last workbased update for a few weeks as i'm off for my hernia repair tomorrow (thats 10 yrs of mucking about with minis for you). it'll be at least 4 weeks till i can do any serious work. hoping to be able to drive after 2 weeks which means MITP is still on the cards :w00t: :w00t:

today the other new front wheel bearing arrived so finished off the front hub build so get it back on its wheels - new bearings . ball joints, vented discs and allspeed CV's.

couldn't resist bolting up the fat rims and taping on the sportspack arches as my final thought :'( :'( :'( :'(

you can see that there will be a bit of arch trimming needed!

Sweet!

The offer of help (especially if you need anything strenuous doing post op') is still there- just shout. I'd quite like a scar on the right hand side to match the one I have on the left anyway!

Bit of a difficult one to answer this I know, but when are you aiming for completion?

All the best.
DD.

haha......well......was aiming to get it running by the end of sept but thats out the window now. hoping before xmas now.

next big job (hehe) will be getting the block in and doing ancillary fitment. just bought an Omex 100 ecu and loom s/h , so hopefully will be able to get it rough running at least on a base map.

a tricky job soon will be modifying the mini pedal box to take a vauxhall clutch cable and an under-dash master cylinder (Tb's will sit where the mini master cylinder usually is). i could buy one from allspeed or the 16v shop but are a bit pricey ;D

managed to get the engine and box in today but got 2 problems, the standard ribbed pulley is too wide for comfort and the oil filter housing is hitting the top arm bolt. the pulley is easily sorted by swopping to a narrow v pulley but the oil housing may take a bit of tinkering.

Nice work, this is an engine conversion I would contemplate if I wasnt useless with this sort of engineering.

engine now :D in after using a thinner nut for the top arm bolt ( :w00t: which are provided in the allspeed kit durrr).

will be picking up a v crank pulley this evening. once that on, then its fully in. next jobs are fitting the exhaust manifold and fabing the alternator mount. i be using a daihatsu alternator which is tiny compared to the vauxhall one (and even a mini one). there a place over in daventry which sell em for about £88
