Haha so the general vote is yes then? The bits I'd need are £120 and me and Simon have the wheels, I'd just need to buy another from the crash which took a chunk out of one of them!

The problem is it's quite a drastic body mod arches wise, I'd have to roll the rears and fronts quite extensively. The front's are no problem, (although it took me 2 years to find a set of mint wings in nightfire red!) since they're just 7 bolts and they're off, but once the rears are rolled I'll need to weld in new ones if I ever go back to original which I will, or wheel should I say... :P

Tempting! I just don't know :P

And the black bits on the bumpers clip into the arch liner mate, but I never found much use for them. If you use the bumper adjusters properly by pushing the bumper up as you do up the inner bolt on the bracket then you wont have a problem. I dont think I've ever seen a Metro without a saggy bumper on at least one side so I wouldn't worry :-)

as regards your wheels and getting the arches sorted, if i was you i would cot teh arches off entirely front and back, then make new ones from scratch. the only reason i say this is that i have seen other metros with those wheels on and there just isnt enough material to pull out to cover those tyres even nearly enough.

the other thing is, you can cheat a little bit with the new custom made arches (which i think should still look similar to the original ones in shape) you can make them come down further over the tyre to make it appear lower, in a kind of mclean brothers mini arches style (i think thats how you spell mclean/maclane? i dunno)

i have seen plenty of vw hatches that have been done like this and if done properly looks amazing, and still kinda factory (as i say if you keep the original kind of design and lines)

Cheers mate, I have seen a few and have to agree. I was thinking mk1 arches on the back which would be fine and are the same curvature give or take and the bolt on MG Metro turbo arches on the front with some rolling to pull the arches out a bit. Lost all enthusiasm for cars and minis and metros in particular right now. Just going to cover her up and leave her be for a while, i thought she was nearly done but I was very wrong and im just exhausted from the vision of her in my head that is just going to cost so much to make true. Tired of it now :(

I need to get to work on the final prep, sanding and masking ready for her to get painted. I have everything I need to finish her now, it's just a case of putting it all together! I have ten days off after Tuesday which gives me plenty of time to get it done so hopefully I can finish it all and then get it all ready to go for paint whenever that may be, it'll be a weight off my mind that's for sure.

What a mess!

Also tried my GTI wheels on and I like them so far. They have decent tyres so i'll probably end up using those until I can be bothered with new wheels

Oh also she sounds very stupid with the sportex, it's so bloody loud! :P It's quite a throaty noise, typical of the K-Series but I think for a little 1.1 it's just a bit ridiculous. The main thing for me is the audio in the car so I'll see how long I can put up with it for before I end up with a standard or GTI system.

Just picked up a rare and super pointless aftermarket accessory that tells me how cold it is outside :P Fills up another blank in my dashboard though. The bottom two will be used for heated seats, drivers and passenger :-)

That's awesome!!

When will Rita be back together? And what wheels will she be wearing?

I want a set of Spi Gti alloys for mine I think...can't decide

Quick question...how does lowering and individualising effect the ride?

Mines a little boaty in standard form but I got a feeling individualising will make it a bit crashy?

Really want to find some GTi roll bars and see what its like with those and some decent tyres before lowering etc

Also have you seen the Austin Metro GTa on eBay...

Quite soon I hope mate. I've had sooo many deadlines that I've failed on but that's how it is with project cars. She is really coming together now though, I have a few other priorities at the moment but as soon as they're out of the way then Rita will get the final bits of work she needs.

I think we'll be doing some wiring this weekend, namely sorting out a bit of the loom from the fuel tank sender. That's about all that needs doing as far as the electrics go. Just a few little niggly bits :-)

and I think for good ride height it's essential that you individualise but if you're not too bothered about that then I wouldn't do it. I don't like Rita low, but I like her lower than the 3" standard that factory PSI provides. It does compromise ride a hell of a lot I think, it's so much stiffer.

I think I'll see how I find it when I actually start driving her, but I may end up working out a way to keep it connected from front and rear and keep a nice ride height, I think a few bit off the rear rods will probably sort that but I'd need a hydragas pump before I tried it. My spheres are already modified and cut enough that the PSI is higher and so I'd need some more if I were to try it.

I think the GTI roll bars will help a great deal too.

And yeah, it's gorgeous :P Shame its white though, the rust will show through in no time :P

When you consider that my Mk3 wasn't indivudalised it sat lovely. It could have done with a pump up at the front to bring it up an inch but even that was far more comfy than Rita

It looks a bit 4x4 at the moment mine does...
I had it pumped up because the front was too low and bouncy for my liking
Mine feels much better now just looks a bit saft

Your blue one sat lovely on those wheels
Mine look like digestives haha

That's the one I was on about :)

Shame gti roll bars arent easy to come by!!!
