My Mum used to have a 1988 216SE.
Proper hyacinth bucket car, same colour too.
It was my favourite of her cars growing up

This car is beautiful, and I was gonna say why haven't you put a splitter back on, but now it has one it's perfect! Much want! But I'm gonna get sportspack wheels for my mk2 gta instead. Loveeerly!

Thank you! Lots of has gone on behind the scenes with a constant exhaust leak battle which is now finally resolved, fans not kicking in and various wiring problems among other things but she is finally getting there now, the splitter still needs some work but it has completed the look.
I have a friend that has just fitted some to his Mk2, it looks great and the offset is just right to avoid rub on the rear arches (unlike my wheels!)
I am really enjoying driving her but I can't say I don't have a pining for something a little older. We have the Cooper for the show season which is awesome, and I have my Mini on the go now. Its hard to justify taking Rita off the road when among our other projects she just keeps on going. She's a great motorway cruiser and with the full leather now is actually almost comfortable. She's reasonably quiet and I do a fair amount of miles a week, she just keeps on going without a problem. She is great fun to drive

I thought I'd posted pictures of my rear brake rebuild but it turns out I didn't. Everything at the rear was replaced after I found a leaky cylinder on the passenger side. We made new gaskets for the cylinders and everything was refurbished or replaced with stainless where possible.

So my fuel pump went on the way to Simon's last week. I had noticed a slight lack in power and a funny idle over the past few weeks and presumed it was a sensor. When she burbled to a stop at the lights on Uxbridge Road I soon learned otherwise!
I spent a while diagnosing and testing various things, including swapping out the MFU which contains the relay for the fuel pump (I carry a spare, they're a common problem on MK3s and 4's because they're directly under the ECU which is where rain spray hits and gets inside eventually ruining the PCB.) With no success I tested to see if I was getting 12v's at the pump end which I was, and then connected up a rad fan which fired up, showing me that it was indeed the suspect fuel pump causing the problems. With the car at the side of a busy road, 3/4 tank of fuel, and only a single scissor jack I wasn't going to lower the tank which requires lowering but preferably removing the rear subframe.
Instead we bought a dremel and ran it through my friends polo which resulted in this under the rear seat.
I'll find a way to seal it later. Maybe welding small brackets onto the cut out and then riv nutting along and sealing with some kind of sealant. For now it isn't a problem.
I think I will be cutting this hole in all of my Metros in the future because had I not been 5 minutes from Simon's uni house it would have been an RAC (not that I'm a member) job. I ordered the pump which arrived 2 days later, luckily I was able to leave it where it was.
She's very dirty now!
And many Metros make one... this one is being scrapped shortly!
Thanks for looking!
Craig
