So i recently have completed a full suspension rebuild front and back including new rear subframe and all new parts except for radius arms which were refurbed.

When i did the original build i replaced the rear dampers with GMAX Super Sport.

And then I tried to fit the front with GMAX Super Sport as-well.

On the front the maximum extension of the damper was 300mm and with the upper suspension arm sitting on the bump stop you need a damper with at least 320mm extension in order to fit the car.

GMAX dampers do not fit a normal car you have to move your upper suspension mount to fit them!

or as MINISPARES advised me to do, jack up the hub to fit the shock.... UH... NO! because then if the car takes off (unlikely i know) the wheel won't sit on the bump stop but will be pulling on the shock!

So I fitted different shocks to the front now (KYB GAS) They are EXCELLENT.

That was the front of the car!

How about the rear..

Well due to the way the rear assembly is put together the GMAX dampers fitted fine.

BUT, once the car was back on the road there was a loud knocking coming from the rear passenger side.. After ruling out radius arm bearings, Wheel bearings and subframe movement i decided to remove the GMAX dampers and put my 20 year old dampers back on the car.

Problem solved!

The GMAX dampers are again too short and were reaching their maximum extension during driving. on top of that, The inner shaft of the damper was rubbing and fouling on the outer shaft of the damper causing the paint to rub off and more noise!.

In a word. from my experiences. GMAX dampers are sub standard. They are cheap cr*p and minispares should be ashamed to even sell them.  ( just incase i'm in risk of getting myself into trouble i should clarify this is my OPINION on these products, and this was just my experience with these dampers.)

P.S. i'm not holding my breath for a refund from minispares. After complaining about the front dampers they don't like me  :mmkay:

PPS. On what grounds can i ask for a refund.. sub standard quality?

Didnt know minispares were selling GMAX shocks, i've heard good things about those you can get from minisport..

Anyway they sold you shortened dampers for lowered height.

I'm running GMAX shocks and they are fine, i'm running a fairly low ride hight however. I did have problems with the Shocks minispares sold me though. One of the front shocks was leaking, and they told me it had to be sent back to the supplier? Well i wasn't having that, so i got a replacement, but it does make me wonder what the build quality of them is like, and they do seem a lot smaller than the KYB shocks.
