So annoyed!

I bought some car magnets form a company called Vista print. the reason i bought the magnets, was i figured they are less permanent than a sticker. But as it turns out the magnet has left a dull patch under where it was placed.

and the magnet -

Vistaprints stance on the matter is that it states in the "instructions for use" not to place the magnet on a horizontal surface. Now I didn't feel i needed to read the instructions to place a magnet (in hindsight i should have). but they are sold as car magnets, not car door magnets. Whats more I am positive i didn't receive any instructions for use.

Basically they are not prepared to discuss the matter further: their last mail "Customer service is unfortunately not able to further help you on this case.

Without the aforementioned "expert opinion", Vistaprint can not take further action.

If you do belive the damage to your car is due to a faulty product, or if you belive that Vistaprint is selling a product under false pretenses, we urge you to seek legal help on the matter.

Best Regards"

Any advice guys, or should i just put it as experience?

put it down to experience.

We use magnets for some of our weekend events and they leave marks on the paint that require a light buff and polish.

So i cant imagine what would happen if left for a prolonged period.

Sorry to hear it's damaged your paintwork. Will it not t-cut out or anything? I had this with a Halfords "GB" oval magnet.

On the company's website I can only see car door magnets, which imply they should go on vertically. They also have care and maintenance info which says not to place horizontally and warns it may cause fading. So not sure you have much comeback :(

Yeah it was only on for a couple of weeks.

I have tried buffing and polishing with machine, but seems the fading is below the clear coat.

I am happy form any advice on how to try and remove it!

Yeah its just one of these things that you never ever, feel the need to read, especially with something as simple as a magnet. saying that i dint receive any instructions in the pack.

I guess I can just get a sticker made up to cover the damage.

A decent paintshop might be able to blend it back in with the rest of the bonnet. It's not too expensive to get panels sprayed so must be even less to get a small bit done.

For a removable panel like a bonnet and add in the metallic paint you'd want to paint the whole lot, much easier

The magnetic L plates I used to have fused to my paint on a couple of occasions pulling the top layer off. I'm not sure if it was the fault of the magnets or if the paint hadn't been applied properly when the car was resprayed. If my brother chooses to learn to drive in the 1275GT we certainly wont be putting magnetic/sticky L plates on.

mmmm, seems like the fading has disappeared! The car has sat in the garage 5 days or so, with the magnet removed.
