Fingers crossed you can get the other shell.

Like i said things can be done with lots of time and money but knowing when to walk away is a good thing.

Its a shame i know and you will feel cut up about it but when you get folks who repaired utter pieces of plop saying don't then you know things are not good.

As for the gas DO NOT use those disposable bottles. They are rubbish and will not last as long as you think. Try Adam Gas and enquire about their 5% Argon CO2 mix bottles. You will need a regulator but ultimately worth it.

Looking good for getting the shell, although it won't be for a couple of weeks until I actually get it.

Could this thread please be locked/deleted as I will start a new one when I receive my new shell.

Good choice, at least you'll be able to practice welding now, you can weld up the cut off seam's, Have a look around locally for places that sell large bottles of gas there might be someone around you area selling bottles

I suppose it could stay open, but I will start a new thread when I get my shell.

Exactly my thoughts, I can use this shell as a donor for panels and to practice welding on :)

I will definitely try to get a big bottle of CO2/Argon gas as well.

Ok i will leave it open for now. once your other thread is up and running then we can lock it. Leaving this open and showing your repairs on the old shell will save cluttering up your new thread.

Gotta be the right decision mate. £250 may seem like a lot of money but the amount of time you've saved yourself alone has got to be worth it.

Good luck with your project, will be following it from day 1 :-)

Thank you, well most of the panels I bought I will be able to use such as wings etc. so it's not all wasted.

I'll put a link to the new thread here so anyone following will be able to find it quickly.

Sounds good. Having all the panels ready to go should make life easier.

All may not be lost with the old shell either. If you plan on scrapping it let me know, I'd be interested in buying the roof off you for a fair price :-)

Thanks guys.
With regards to this current shell, I will most likely cut it up to use some of the panels that aren't ruined/corroded on my new shell. So if you're reading this Down&out, your shell hasn't been wasted!

Daviewonder, you are more than welcome to the roof, providing the one on this shell is good. What sort of price are you offering? It's solid with some surface rust and lots of filler.

I must admit, when I first started reading this thread, I was worried by that shell. As it has been mentioned, anything can be fixed with enough time and money but that shell just doesn't justify the expense, especially with the seam business.

I'm glad you are considering a new shell now and I wish you good luck with it. I will be keeping an eye on this one.

Ben
