Hi Joe

I haven't been on for a while but I've still been getting your posts via Email. Really glad you got it sorted fairly easily after the smash. its great that you are using it too. I was looking out for it at the IMM but didn't see it unfortunately.

Hi Olly,

Yer it knocked out quite well, it really needs a whole new front end though, one day!

ahh yeah I had intended on taking her to the IMM but a friends 21st birthday on the saturday meant I was not in a fit state to drive down on the sunday!

Her next show outing will be Retro Rides at shelsley walsh in 2 weeks! Might even run her up the hill!

So in preparation for Retro Rides I decided it was time to address a hub problem.

When I re-bearinged the car last year I noticed the outer race just slipped into the hub. At the time I thought great less effort. But now there's a slight wheel wobble, and with the miles I'm doing it needed addressing.

So again in pieces on the drive!

Old hub vs beautiful new hub.

Annnnd Down

I've got very good at pulling it apart and back together quickly!

I also bought my first bit of bling. I'm going for the understated look...

So all back together, topped up with oil and water, a quick tune and she's now running better than ever. No tappet noise, and pulling like a train. Very happy chappy.

My extensive sticker order has been placed as well, so more updates coming soon!

Next mod will be a new full exhaust. I'm thinking a works rally exhaust.... thought?

I wouldn't recommend a centre exit exhaust, especially if you do a lot of miles. You will be forever cleaning the rear of the car as it will get sooted up constantly. You are better off with a side exit twin box RC40.

I concur, i've got a  centre exit exhaust on my MPi, done over 10k in it last year, and it's no worse than my side exit playmini. Reckon it'd suit it!

Love the look of this GT!

I have noticed that on cars at shows, definitely something to consider.

I really want something different though, at the moment the car sounds amazing and people keep asking me what I'm running. But alas it's beyond saving.

It also has to look right on the car, so no twin exit.

I figured the works exhaust offered by maniflow or somerford would give me something special with the look I'm after.

I actually have a stainless single box RC40 that we pulled off another car because I didn't like the noise. We swapped to a NOS factory 1275 GT twin box exhaust. That was perfect for my dad but to quiet for me.

I have to admit I do really enjoy the louder exhaust, even despite doing long journeys regularly. (I wear headphones)

The other option I was considering was a single box maniflow, either in side or centre exit.

Yer at the moment I'm running a Janspeed single box side exit, but with practically no baffles and blowing. Surprisingly it's quite quiet around town, but howls when you give it some. It's perfect but it certainly won't make an MOT!

Thank You :) It's all in the wheels I assure you!

So I couldn't resist any longer! I've always wanted to do this....

So we've now got...

Janspeed rear and side decals.

Yokohama decals above the front arches.

Large BL helmets on the sides

& finally a Heuer Chronograph decal on the bottom of the roof.

Silver 1275 GT stripes are on order!

Suggestions are definitely encouraged!

Joe

My suggestion - peel them off...!!  :D

Seriously I think it looks much better without them (although the silver GT stripes should look good & I don' mind the Pistonheads one!), but it's obviously your car so it's up to you! Speaking personally I would never put anyone's stickers on my car unless they were paying me money (or giving me free parts) to do so...!!! (the ones on there came with the car & I've been too lazy to take them off yet!!)

Big no from me too  :(

I liked the slightly tatty original look, it's part of what made this such a good thread.

I wouldn't say you have buggered it mate.

If you like it then that's all that matters.

I only wrote my opinion because you encouraged opinions otherwise i would have said nowt

I don't think I have commented in this yet

Read it all the way through...not all at once and I love it

Pulls off the used look so well its fantastic!!

Also with the stickers... Go all out with them and then decide

Bit of a pain but with only the few above it doesn't look right

With all the stickers I think it will look better!!

I now want a clubman with those wheels..

Don't worry they come off, and it's still tatty and original! (although meticulously maintained ;) it's running the best it ever has at the moment)

It's more a trial to appease my curiosity.

The GT stripes will probably stay though I do like the look they give.

Everything is still staying period :)

I think it's the first thing I've done thats split opinion! Don't worry I love peoples opinions good or bad, I think it's a good gauge.

Thankyou :) There's no better wheels for a clubman! :)

I agree, I think the GT stripes will tie it together, or thats what I'm counting on!

So today the GT got subjected to something I've never done before. While I was t cutting water marks from most panels (don't pressure wash a crap paint job) my friend suggested polishing it. I never saw the point before but after doing the bonnet I had to do the entire car!

Came out remarkably well! GT stripes have arrived and I'll fit them next week hopefully with a new exhaust system.
