Good to see it getting back together again - glad you didn't give up

So today was an interesting one. The car had to be ready, and not just ready but for a 150 mile trip!
I figured a few hours tarting her up and I'd be good to go.
I was a little off, the rear brakes decided to start binding. Traced to the shoes moving on the backplate, probably cause by the crash.
Swapped my wheels back on, as well as all my little touches. As the phase goes, you can't polish a turd, but you can roll it in sprinkles!
I didn't have any green paint left, so it's camo primer time!
I went into my spares collection and picked out a nice grill, decided on the early GT grill for a change.
Fitted sidelights the correct way round, as mine had been put on the wrong side!
Then quite a few little niggles sorted and I was good to go!
Got about half a mile from home, pulled over to check everything, and realised I was missing something.
I then returned home before I was pulled by every cop who saw me.
Looks damn cool without a plate though.
So after only a half mile test, managed to drive 130 miles without fault!
Arrived safely at my destination.
Only complaint is she's a bit twitchy, I think my tracking was knocked out....
Oh and my new heater valve leaks! Pissed anti-freeze down my beautifully painted engine, bugger.

It actually looks really good. Battle scars are a good luck on a clubby IMO

Love this thread, my favorite project on here! Personally I would never fully restore this one, just do what needs doing to keep it nice and solid, and running well, otherwise leave it as it is with its battle scars, so much character.

It certainly is rocking the battle scarred look!
The only cosmetic changes it needs at the moment is a passenger side underrider as I couldn't find a replacement in my collection!
I don't half get some funny looks, well they're already turned waiting as people hear it coming a mile off!
Thanks Miniman24, high praise indeed!
I know what you mean, I still don't know what to do with it really, I quite like the usability of it as it looks. I've got (well not mine per se, but to play with) Immaculate mini's, and you just can't use them! They'd go bad so quickly. Where as this I've got no issue rubbing back and painting any bubbles or spots, & because of this it remains remarkably solid, well if you allow the dodgy previous patches.
It will require a full new exhaust before the next MOT though, as my vintage Janspeed one is starting to rust through in about a million places. It's a real shame as it really does sound amazing on full chat.
I think a maniflow is the only real alternative.
Also here's some more gratuitous shots of where it'll be sat outside of for a while.
So it may receive some goodies if it behaves.

I know what you mean, with my old rough one I wasn't too bothered about the rust as I could just rub it back and paint the panel with what ever paint was handy, but with my Clubby, there is none and I don't want to risk rust appearing by using it daily! I avoid using it in the wet as it is, but need a second car as a daily.
I have two very good under-riders if you need some?

It is a shame, they really don't last with daily abuse!
Thankyou very much for the offer, but I just recieved a message from my dad to say he found the ones I was looking for so I'll be popping home at the weekend to retrieve them! & also for the Leyland Show at Gaydon!
I like this picture a lot. Those wheels really do suit these cars.
Thankyou, best wheels for a clubman in my opinion!
Wow, didn't realise you were so local!
Only as of Sunday, hence the push to get it back on the road!

So it's been a busy week for the GT, over 400 miles! Concluded with a 140 mile run back to Leicestershire. Not bad for a car that didn't have an engine in it last week!
I have to say though she doesn't like being in traffic, the clutch really starts to drag when she gets hot, the heater valve leaks, and the rad isn't exactly sealed.... The temperature gauge did start to rise!
All things I'll have to address. I have no idea what to do with the clutch though. It's a brand-new clutch, brand-new master and slave! there was no play in the plunger, or the ball on the throw arm! It's bled, and adjusted to the specs in my service manual! What more can I do!
A gratuitous picture, I really can't resist a quick snap every now and again, the rat look is growing on me....
Oh and look what arrived!
It's not what you know, but who you know ;)
The GT, and one of her stablemates will be at the Leyland Show on Sunday!
She's certainly not a show car and I'm probably going to get some funny looks next to immaculate minis, but I have better wheels.
& if they people get bitchy I'll refer them to what else we bring. :)
Come and say hello :)

Had a brilliant weekend with a trip down to Gaydon.
Thanks Domneon, what did you think of her new look? haha
Decided to convoy 2 minis down as we had the passes. Got a good spot on the front row for both of them.
Even if they are the polar opposites of mini ownership!
I then had to drive 150 miles back! In 7 days she's done over 600 miles!
Good going for a car which didn't have an engine in 10 days ago!
Sorted out all the little rattles and the clutch as well. Just the heater control rattles now!

Still one of my favourite cars, so much character and has a story. Glad she's giving you good service.

Both me and my Dad loved it, especially the wheels.
My Mini has a similar patchy look to it
