I would also try and engage them into conversation about an agreeable figure for you to fix the car yourself.
I could possibly help with a bumper, over-rider, sidelight and grille subject to checking my spares stash!

Thanks GraemeC I really appreciate that, I'll let you know if I need any help :)
I stripped the car of all my modified bits, they're fully covered by my insurance, but I don't want them going missing, the cars on an agreed value so they're also not needed for valuation purposes.
Thankyou for all your kind words, I have to admit I'm heartbroken, this afternoon the insurance company recovered my baby to assess the damage, had a lump in my throat.

Christ, I had to compose myself before replying to this! If the worst happens, be proud of the show you got her to mate, you'd done a lovely job to that clubby, I've been watching thread since first post and cannot believe that's happened. Amazing restrain restraint shown by yourself, to be honest if it was my car i'd of just been on my knees in tears. haha.
Fingers crossed for the assessment.

Ahhhhhh maaaaaaaaan! Just caught up on what's happened here! Can't believe it - that's massively unlucky!
If you need it I could help out with a bumper and a reasonable bonnet.......hopefully the insurance will let you fix it up.

I read this all a while back and its a lovely looking car. Its really unlucky what happened, but fortunate you were outside and able to stop him getting away, As much as it would have been highly satisfying to smack him, its much better for you that you didn't. It's also great that you got it all on CCTV, excellent back up if he tries claiming anything silly in court.
I hope the car doesn't get written off and that you get it back soon, even if you have to do the work yourself. Hopefully the courts will force the little sod to pay up, although if he has a low income he'll only have to pay something stupid like a fiver or tenner a week. At least the bike got taken off of him.

I really appreciate your comments, I'll let you know as soon as I do.
Poor GT was taken to a main Vauxhall dealer for an assessment, so god knows what they'll make of it. I'm yet to hear from them.
I know the repair is do-able without any major surgery as the subframe didn't move. So it's just panel damage.
I don't know which option I'd prefer. If they go for the repair it'll have to go to a specialist, and it seems silly to replace all those panels and repaint it green.
If I was doing it I'd replace the entire front end, sort the body properly and paint the entire car in it's original colour.
If I get the option I'll be topping up the bill they send to the insurance and they can do it properly.
If they write it off thats exactly what I'll be doing myself.

Hi Joe,
I began reading this last year and don't know why i didn't get to finish reading. I'm glad i have now though.
That Mini of yours has so much character. It's such a lovable looking thing
When i read the words 'this is a post i didn't want to do' I knew what was coming and i felt so sad for you. That has to be the worst feeling, seeing that happen right in front of your eyes.
It is a bloody good job you managed to stop him getting away but like others have said, it is unlikely that he will get in any serious trouble which is all wrong.
I have my fingers crossed for you mate and really hope that the assessment turns up good news and this GT can return to the road where it belongs.
I will be keeping my eyes on this thread in anticipation.
Good luck mate.

So I've just received the insurance verdict on the GT.
They're offering a Cash in Lieu settlement. So I get to repair it, at least it's not a write-off!
Sadly their pricing is quite a way off, I've been offered £1211.30 to do the repairs.
Adding up the damaged parts I was quite a way off this. I rang them back and queried this, they deem the value of replacement parts to be £400.
Including a new front bumper at £26!
I've added up all the panels and parts and I'm getting around £1112. This is before labour and paint.
The fight begins....
