Didn't one go for £40k last year?

Yes but it was a very early unrestored Mini from July '59........has same problem as the tunnel Mini though, ie, should owner restore or not restore?

Recently the 15th oldest surviving '59 Mini in need of total restoration went for around £6900 inc premium at Bonhams auction, much of the previous press and media publicity had suggested it would go for at least £10,000.......

That one does put the value of the tunnel mini into perspective a bit. I know which one I'd rather have at £7k anyway.

Maybe £10k is on the high side, quite interested to see what it actually does.

Gaydon should accuire it on behalf of the nation as its the last remaining thing of the BRITISH MOTOR INDRUSTY....that the dreaded Red Robbo ran into the ground with all the strikes.......in the 70s.......I would gladly give Steve Sheena Morgan £100 to go to him keeping it.... :proud:

I was unaware that red robbo was chief designer and chief economic strategist at BL?

 exactly, I suggest you read a little more deeply into the saga of the decline of the British motor industry before making sweeping statements. He certainly was complete pratt but was not the main cause of the demise by a long way. A lot of people seem all too ready to forget the shoddy design process, poor quality control and appalling management, or just believe the rubbish repeated on the telly as though it was fact. Don't take my word for it, make the effort and speak to those who were there.

God Bless Maggie!!

Banking crisis
Massive benefits bill due to selling off council houses and making people unemployed
Mass immigration due to deregulation of labour market
Hundreds dead in the Falklands war due to cuts (no one seems to remember the attempt that failed under the previous labour government)
Increasing disparity between average wage and top earners
Etc etc etc, in fact pretty much all the problems we have now started in the 80s

I am not sure it will be God, I having a feeling she will be somewhere a lot warmer............

shoddy design process, poor quality control and appalling management

Makes me proud to be British
There was never in an issue with what we COULD make, the problem was in what we DID make. Don't forget other countries had their howlers as well, the difference was that their governments chose to support them through the crap times but insist on the right changes. Ours poured money in and let them carry on with the same bozos at the top. If you want quality engineering Britain has always been the place to come, just look at how many F1 teams are based here as an example.

Hahaha. I love how a topic all about a controversial mini has descended into a political debate about Thatcher!

The Nazi comparisons are due any minute.

I love this idea so much!! I'd hate to see it leave the country which I know it will!! This car will make 20K+ it's a very iconic piece! You may have seen that me and this Steve didn't get on to we'll!! But that's life is it not worth someone who has maybe a bit if background speaking to him finding out the cost of the transportation and storage stuff and see if he would sell it to basically to the syndicate for that?? Surely it goes his way to like he said hrs not in it for a profit margine so why not leave it in this country for people who actually care about it????

I have seen a cat that looks like Hitler but not a mini. Or are you suggesting Hitler hid the mini? ;-)

On the original topic, it seems a nice idea on paper but the problems outlined above mean it has little/ no chance in reality. The 'I have an idea but I won't tell you what it is' doesn't help. I can't see any chance of other external finance, after all who can put a price on what its worth. For all that I do hope it ends up in a museum, if nothing else it has an interesting story to tell.
