Please help.... I'm the least mechanical person there is.... The clutch on my 98 mini cooper has started to get gradually stiffer How do I go about fixing it?

check the system for fluid(cylinder next to servo/ master cylinder), it could be empty, if it isnt, try bleeding the system first there colud be air in the system

Theres a brass bush in the pedal that the pedal shaft goes thro, that could be worn

Try to identify where the sound is coming from, inside the car or outside in the engine bay.
As mentioned the pedal box area inside the car could be the source or perhaps more likely the clutch arm on the clutch side of the engine.
There are several components that need maintenance there and if they have been ignored may be quite rusty and causing a problem.
There are several pieces that also wear out and eventually need replacing especially if they have not been greased regularly.

its going to be the pivot point between clutch arm and slave cylinder, it needs oiling to avoid friction, its located on the left hand side of the engine bay on the clutch housing :)

look into the the engine bay. on the left by the clutch housing, you will see the arm by the slave cylinder, if what the other posts mean by pivot point

Thats the one, it can be seen in this picture on the side of the clutch housing
