But at least that she has now admitted to me that he has done people for fraud he can't say that he sent a camera and was switched during postage.

So I Am An Idiot.

Why is it your able to make contact with the fraudsters but the police can't? Just makes them look silly, I and I guessing a fair few others pay a lot of money in tax each month to pay the police to look after us at times like this, what support has bullet got from them, a 5 minute phone call costs next to nothing for a bit of reassurance that something's trying to be done.
Really feel for you buddy, it's a sad world we live in sometimes

Cheers guys,
Well I have added all this to the report, but it just depends how long it will take them to look into it. I am going to write a word document at some point this week with everything from start to finish, dates, times, what was being said/done so when the police come to me I have a detailed report I can give them and it means I won't forget anything either.
So yes, this top thread can now be changed too. Yes I am an idiot

What you are doing is good - get as much info as possible but I suspect you will need a lot of patience. The Police are slow but no doubt have their reasons and will be very used to dealing with this kind of thing.
Nobody should be able to get away with stealing a grand off somebody, and the Police know that. Otherwise everyone would be doing it.
My bet is they get him through the bank account. He will have had to have presented ID etc to open it and chances are he's a bit stupid and using his current account. Perhaps he is a gambler and desperately needed money, who knows. Gumtree and the phone number are too difficult to identify anyone through.

Not much chance I don't think.
I'm trying everything I can. I just asked for an update and they said that they will only contact if they choose to investigate. I am banging my head against a brick wall.

It might feel like your banging your head but just bear in mind if this guy isn't caught and stopped he'll catch some other poor sod out and they'll have to go through what you are, so it's definatly worth keeping on at them, not that you should have to though!!!!
Try writing to you MP they're always looking to keep their region happy

The more I read about it the worse it gets. The bank don't have to give the money back it they see it as me gifting him money. Without his say so, they can't reverse the funds. The only way I can get the money back is by Small claims court.

When you find out exactly who/where he is, go to his house and steal stuff to the value of what you paid him. Technically you can't be done for burglary unless you damage anything. The law states you are not stealing if he is in your debt!*
*I accept no responsibility if you choose to do this.

The police are useless in this country!! just go sort it out yourself like i have had to many times before, then when the police ring you asking what you have done just say "nothing, dont know what you are on about"

maybe get his correct information (contact details) and then file a small claims or contact a solicitor and go after him that way. the latter will cost you a lot more than small claims though.

I have no respect for the police force of this country
As an ex Met Police Officer, this sentence deeply saddens me. Makes me think all the hard work, training, getting up early to get down to Hendon every weekend, finally passing and putting a lot of hours on the street was for nothing. I've held back from the Police bashing comments, as people have a right to say whatever the hell they think of Police, I used to get it all the time on duty, so it's nothing new. I'd like to tell you that not all of the Police force are like this, granted, the force doesn't exactly have a good reputation most of the time, but I think that's a lot to do with bureaucracy rather than how the force behaves.
To the OP, as said keep at the Police, believe me, if he has taken over 1k of your money, he's most likely done it elsewhere before and they will know about him. Have you spoken to citizens advice bereau?
