I worked at Longbridge for most of my life. It was my life, the people there were and still are my extended family. We cared passionately about what we were doing. Most o us still care just as passionately about the products we worked on. Any memorabilia is fantastic as it brings alive our collective and individual memories.
It is fantastic that so many others share our passion for Mini. BUT the ownership is not important. Showing the physical items and the stories is what is important and keeping hem alive across the generations.
So many of the people associated with the story of Mini are no longer with us, but their memories and genius lives on. That's what is important. IMO

If people are so worried about this maybe they should have got off their arses and saved it themselves, not waited for someone else to do it and then try telling them what to do.
Steve took the time to go down all the right avenues to acquire this Mini, so as far as I can see it's his to do as he likes, he doesn't have to answer to anyone. Christ what next, people getting abuse for deciding to break their Minis or scrap them as they're 'destroying history' ?
Comparing it to the Statue of Liberty- Priceless!
Good luck with the sale Steve :)

Good luck with the sale..
I do hope this mini either becomes a museum piece or a fully working mini....
And well done for giving someone the chance to own a piece of mini history...
Cheers

Please someone build a Z-Cars out of it. In all seriousness it doesn't matter what happens to it whether it's built up or left as is. It will always have it's history and it's story, as long as it's documented good luck to whoever takes it on.

Yes I am 16!... ...Believe it or not I pay my way in life...
seriously, as a parent that's one of the funniest thing i've ever read on here
This is what infuriates me! You can clearly see this kids chasing his ambitions in owning a mini at such a young age and I can fully understand where he is coming from! I'm only 18 myself and first brought my mini at 15! And every penny in my car is my own with no help from my parents'
And now some members on here are assuming that as we are young we have to be treated that way, with sly little comments like the one above! Guaranteed you can sit there and think you're 'tough' behind your computer ! Grow up and have a little respect!

Well ironically I think you've actually just managed to demonstrate Anon's original point there perfectly, in that you consider "paying your way in life" to consist of merely paying for your car with no help from your parents!
Now as admirable as doing that is, I think that most of us would consider "paying your way in life" to involve a little more than just that. Not least that you support the rest of society by paying a significant amount of your earnings in income tax, which obviously you can't do if you are under 18. That aside though paying your way in life generally involves paying out for rent/mortgage repayments, gas electricity, water, council tax, telephone, broadband, TV licence, food, clothes, Holidays etc.
Now I'm not saying that there are no 16 or even 18 year olds out there that have to do all that, but those that do are definitely in the minority. Quite honestly if you were actually faced with having to pay out for all that aged 16-18, then it would be quite a sad state of affairs. I'd feel quite sorry for anyone with that sort of financial burden so early in life.

Yes certainly it would be, and paying all that is a huge affair for people of all ages and I respect that but moving on I believe that everyone should be confronted will the same amount of respect whatever age they are!

You also have to earn respect of others no matter what age you are........some of the ranting comments and assumptions made by others about Steve and his rescue of the Longbridge Mini don't deserve any respect.

But in general respect is something that is earned and with the best will in the world aged 16-18 you really haven't had an awful amount of time and life experience to earn that respect. So I would have to disagree, I'm approaching 40 and firmly believe that my parents generation generally deserve more respect than I do, and that my grandparents generation deserve considerably more than that, for the sacrifices they had to make during the war.Yes certainly it would be, and paying all that is a huge affair for people of all ages and I respect that but moving on I believe that everyone should be confronted will the same amount of respect whatever age they are!
Now that's not to say that anybody of any age should be disrespected, but to think that we all deserve the same amount of respect in life is actually a little disrespectful to those that have contributed and sacrificed more than ourselves. It's not all about age though, few people would argue that a 19 year old war veteran who had lost his limbs in Afghanistan, deserves far more respect than someone in their sixties who has spent their entire life on the social.
Apologies for going way off topic here!

Are you actually a secret millionaire or something? You must be in order to have a house big enough for all your children, your collection of minis, and to be able wall mount a mini as well!!
