I've been avoiding posting on here because of the amount of keyboard warriors, I am firmly on the side that it should've never been restored. But at this point that's simply a side point to what I have to say.
Firstly the amount of disrespect on here towards a member for being young is unbelievable. Age has nothing to do with earning respect, People who deserve respect aren't the ones who demand it because of their age, nor are they the ones who shun someone's opinion (of which they are entitled to as his first thread on here was asking what people thought of his plans) simply because of their age, especially when you don't even know them.

Secondly, theres a comment above saying an asking price mentioned was £20,000. If this is true then I am truly disgusted. It seems o be a massive contradiction from recovering costs which the OP has been claiming to do.
If both sides of this seemingly obvious contradiction are true, then accept my apologies and also my offerings to move any car and store it for a year at a cheap price of £10,000

Finally, those of you pointing fingers at people calling them jelous. I pity you for being so caught up in the world of money and profit that you have to accuse someone of being jelous simply because you yourself are jelous. Some people genuinely care about documenting historic and abandoned sites with too much heart to think of money instead of how they actually feel about the story of any item. Some people aren't in everything for the money, and I feel completely sorry for those that are so focused on it that they can't actually see how somebody else can have goodness in their heart

Derelict-uk has nothing but my respect and applause for having something other than greed in their mind

Let's not forget it wouldn't of become iconic if Steve hadn't of pulled it out, that earns him the right to do what ever he wants to do with it

He also needs to cover his expences, the mini didn't fly out on its own

Trac

err, it started it's life of fame when I first took a photo of it and put it on 28dayslater. That thread then went viral and was posted in car forums all over the world, people had heard rumors of the tunnels but until us explorers went in and photographed them, many had never seen them. After a couple of months, mini magazine got in touch with me to publish a small feature on the Mini in May 2007 (my avatar is my pic in the mag)...

He hasn't earned the right to do anything with it, all he did was remove it on the agreement he was going to restore it, but that hasn't happened.

museums dont want it

Did you offer the car to the museums for free or did you try and sell it to them? I am quite surprised to hear no one wanted it. Who did you contact?

Out of interest, who supplied you (or the auction company) with this image?

While I don't have any wish to get embroiled in this, I think it is important to say that it is not true to say that the Pride of Longbridge did not want the Longbridge Tunnel Mini at PoL.  While I can only go on what Gemma Cartwright said in her messages to me and the conversations that I had with John Baker, but both say that this was not the case.  I have huge respect for both of them and what they have done for Longbridge over the years, so feel it is more than a little unfair to state that the Mini was not wanted.

thom " a money driven scandal" a bit harsh really when you probably never read my reason for getting it out ...i wont take any offence as we all have  our opinion ...the mini for the last 8 months has sat in my workplace i see it everyday and love it to bits ..but its sat there gathering dust i havent been approched by any museums or any other orgainsations wanted to show the car the pride of longbridge didnt want the mini there..

i have come across so much childish snobery and jelousy since i got the mini out so really any comments just bounce straight off now ..the mini needs to be loved and left as it is or restored its selling as NO RESERVE so its not about the money and do you think i got it for nothing and transporting it around is free ...so maybe before you think this is about the money its not

Good Luck with the sale, I'm just glad I got to see it in person and to be able to get pics of it.

its a car, sell it on if thats what is wanted, keep all the money if thats whats wanted! i someone went to the trouble of getting permission to get the car and then the effort of getting it out then the car belongs to them and they have the right to do what they want with it! its a somewhat historic car but if someone wants to put a stupid body kit on their car or have it as low as possible we can only advise but at the end of the day what use is telling people what to do, so let the man sell his car without being judged or being told he has to donate to charity, it his decision what'l be done with the the car or the money.

Derelict-UK, if you're so perturbed about it not being given away, why don't you buy it at auction and then give it away? You seem to be happy with other people spending their hard earned money to just give the mini away for free so be a man and stand by your opinions and stand for what you believe in. Buy it and give it to a museum. Is there any chance you'll do it? not a chance. That goes for anyone else that feels so strongly about it being given away, waste your money but don't expect anyone to waste their hard earned cash. In addition, stop demanding them to remove the pictures, you were committing a civil offense when you took these pictures, you haven't a leg to stand on if you try and threaten them.

Derelict-uk has nothing but my respect and applause for having something other than greed in their mind

Its great to see that you have respect for people who commit civil offenses by trespassing and also believe that if you give your time, effort and hard earned money into something you cant do what you want with your property. Next time you buy something, remember that according to derelict-UK its not actually yours and you should give it away for free.

Stevem4323, I admire you for saving this piece of history from getting left or forgotten about. Myself and most of the other members of the forum are thankful for the time and effort you put into saving this mini, let alone the financial cost you must have incurred by retrieving it, storing it and transporting it around the country. I hope the sale goes well and the buyer wont get heckled and insulted by mindless members like you have been here.

can i just put this one to bed now mr derelict-uk the car has been in the public eye for the last 8 months it has been offered free of charge to who ever i thought would be able to use it for the good of the history of longbridge ....i have a twitter account i have a facebook page it even has a few videos on youtube ......i have had no phone calls from any museum wanting it and believe me i aint going to beg them to have it ...i have in fact had many great offers off help with its restoration ..but who do i pick without offending anyone ...do i sell it private as i have had offers...but i then upset everyone else that wanted it ..so as you are the one with the answer you tell me what to do with it ...oh yeah forget the museums .....and forget putting it down the tunnels so lets see if you can give me a sensible answer that will please everyone including the haters and keyboard warriors ..the car was originally to be used as a tool to promote the plight of longbridge and the 6000 workers that lost their jobs ..alot of them i know .and we wanted to raise £24,000 to match the same total the 6000 recieved in redudency payments (£3 each )that they then donated to charity being the acorns in selly oak for terminally ill children ....BUT alot of people missed the bigger picture and instead of useing the mini they sort of snubbed it maybe because they never thought of it first...so i will tell you the fairest way for this to go is in a high profile auction it will go to the highest bidder who will then do with it what they like ..the donation will be made to said charity and let others bang on about the history of longbridge but not quite do anything about it other than take photos

Just seen this on the BBC, thought the need to sign back in and give my 2 cents...

So the whole thing about you 'never selling it, for any amount' was just ******* then?

If you don't have time to restore it yourself, you could always donate it to Gaydon or Coventry transport museum.

a lot of good comments as usual and some daft ones as usual but ime sure if i would of give the mini to someone i would of been slated for that aswell..damned if you do damned if dont .....some great comments though guys please keep them coming they make some great reading

Rubbish, if you donated it to a museum, people would have applauded your decision, You know what, you could have given it back to Longbridge and they could have put it in their showroom as a history section.

But of course, you thought of profit first.

You say it could go for £100, but that is £100 more than you paid for it, I don't think you should make any money out of this at all. It would be nice if the sale does go through, that you could give all the profit to a local Longbridge charity. I really dispise the fact you have taken something that has become so iconic at sold it for your gain, however little you seem to think it might go for.

just been on your site michael ...nice site nice pictures do you give your work away for free !!!

My apologies, I hadn't realised there were people out there who were perfect and had never committed any sort of offence. If we went by that logic then we would practically never be able to have any respect for people.

If it weren't for derelict-uk going there and taking those pictures, the cars history would all be rumours still and then forgotten about.

This mini wasn't bought either, I'm not telling anyone to give their property away and neither was derelict-uk. And I wouldn't be buying anything that a lot of other people wanted or admired just for the sake of making mindless profit. Granted money has been spent transporting this mini, nowhere near 20k worth, and it was by CHOICE. If I was selling a car I wouldn't be charging people for the amount of shows I have taken it to to build its popularity

Genuinely can't believe the amount of fuss that is being caused over this poor wee 1275 GT! Fine, some people didn't think it should be removed, but it was and people should seriously consider getting over that. From where i'm standing, (a long long way away) the guy is openly admitting that he hasn't the time to restore it to its former glory or to do it justice, because of this he is offering it on the open market for people that may have the time, money and expertise to do so. Really struggling to see the big deal in all that!!!

As much as i love the Mini scene, threads like this with the majority of posts pointless, personal and down right petty make me question why i do.....
