Good luck with the move, you will be back on the panels in no time!

Hopefully it won't be too long but with nowhere there to work on it, i't going to take some doing to get it in the back garden with no side access.
where there is a will, there is a way and all that.

SITREP:
The boot lid fit is still terrible. I can't get enough adjustment to make it look even half sensible. It seems to be since i fitted a different hinge. They are the correct sides so i know it's not that.
Then i was fed up with the mess everywhere so put the Mini outside and spent 2 hours tidying up. I also cleared all the crap out of the Mini.

Hi Ben,
Sorry to hear you're hanging up the welder for a while. before you do I had a question about welding the rear bulkhead to the boot floor. How did clamp / hold the two panels together as you plug welded them?
tacking this job in the next week or so, so just wanted some tips.

It all depends really.
Mine had a slight gap between the bulkhead bottom flange and the seat base so i had to chase it down tight with a wide bolster and a hammer to tighten the gap.
As long as the flange sits naturally close to the floor, you can just use the shaft of your hammer to hold it tight next to each plug weld hole as you go along.
I often use that method and it works well providing nothing is under tension.
make sure its a hammer with a wooden shaft though

Ben quick question. Any where that you have taken back to bare metal that had surface rust what did you use to treat the metal and has the rust stayed away ?. I'm just concerned about parts of my bulk head that's all
I made sure that first every trace was removed and then i used a Zinc rich primer. I have it on good authority that the zinc content sacrifices itself to neutralize any remaining traces of rust in the steel and so far after a few years, it is completely rust free still.
Time will tell in the coming weeks/months after it has been stored outside

Cheers for reply Ben. that's what I'm trying to do with really decent wire wheels in the angle grinder plus some kurust so I can see where there is still rust, then using zinc rich primer on top should hopefully be ok then. Sucks that you have to store it out side but I'm sure it will hold up if it has already so far
you shouldn't need kurust and zinc primer but i suppose it wouldn't hurt.
have you tried filament brushes?

I haven't tried filament brushes I will look into getting some and giving that a go. Anything decent to get panels to bare metal quick or is everything slow ? Just that is more annoying and time consuming than drilling holes
These http://www.ebay.co.u...=item1c22f67d45
And these http://www.ebay.co.u...=item1a01f456e1
use them carefully as they get quite hot but they rip paint off quickly
See for yourself

The filament cup brush in your picture is USELESS.
