I need some good drill bits, that don't take 14 hours to make a hole.

Saying that, I need a good drill too, I'm thinking corded. Also, yes there's a loom clip up under the light too, couldn't see it as it was dark and someone put a fuel tank in the way.

Sounds like all my other drill bits.

These are ace and can be had for less than a tenner on amazon

Today was a day of mixed feelings. started off ok and ended on a bitter note...

I started by trimming the bumper lip a touch as described in the last update.

 UhoIJzz.jpg

Looking better

Then i put the subframe back in just to make sure everything was ok. it went straight in with no fuss.

Next before bolting up the rear trunions to the boot floor, i needed to prep the reinforcers for welding.

Z6sMJcE.jpg

You can see in the above picture that the bottom of the quarter panel is a terrible fit and i was never happy with that repair so i shall re-do it in a few days.

Got the other side prepped too

m9y7MFx.jpg

It was just a case of drilling some 6mm holes in them to plug weld to the floor, cleaning back and priming. I also bare metaled the adjacent areas on the boor floor and arch tub.

And here they are bolted in place

3AmQsYf.jpg

Took a fair bit of juggling around to get the bolt holes lined up well with each other.

DcZI0U5.jpg

Once i was happy,i went around the whole area to check and double check everything fitted well and then made a start plug welding the bumper lips together.

I just put a couple of clamps between each ole and moved them as i went.

Then plug welded

KV3JsB9.jpg

and linished back

Then i put the bumper on to see how it fitted. It seemed to line up perfectly well with the holes.

It is reasonable uniform but can be tweaked later.

Next job was to plug weld the arch tub to the boot floor

AcjFSh0.jpg

Then weld in the reinforcers

sQFiN7P.jpg

WQHjcM0.jpg

Clean up the plug welds and prime

mNHgN0s.jpg

EUSmxS5.jpg

You might also notice that i put some seam welds inside the boot between the arch tub and floor just for a bit extra strength

And then the seat belt mounts

Then put the bootlid on.

But i dropped the sodding thing.

Luckily i managed to find another hinge but now the fit is horrendous. Uneven gaps and the damn bumper now won't fit past the hinges.

i don't know what i am going to do??

 4AVAW0M.jpg

This side is miles out

QaGHqSs.jpg

and the other side WORSE

8tCz8G5.jpg

This isn't helping

aMNAsok.jpg

I can't move the hinge up any more so i'm stuck...

I did think about taking the grinder to the hinge. Is that a good idea??

Cheers

Ben

Can the studs on the bumper be adjusted? Also I noticed the lip on my rear panel has a slight angle to it which could improve the clearance.

You might be right about the lip.

Does it angle down?

if so, i may have wasted 5 minutes straightening it up  >_<

Mine (whats left of it anyway) has a slight downwards angle, which would improve the clearance a little.

Hi Ben ,
Gutted for you dropping the boot. My rear panel lip also angles down, so I think this will help with the clearance .

Coming along nicely ben, surprised the hinge cracked like that (although it's a handy picture for me how they're fitted together so not all is lost )

Are left and right hinges the same?

Nope, they are slightly angled.

Cheers Alex, thought so.

Ben, any chance you've fitted the wrong hinge?

Hi Ben, the lip should angle downwards slightly. That will probably cure that problem :-)

I knew I was going to write something else, as above the lip should bend down slightly, Probably to let the water run off.

Thanks everyone.

Ill bend the lip back down tomorrow.

I think you are right about the hinges, I tried both of my spare ones, the second one i tried was better so i have probably got that right now.

The centre bumper stud barely goes through the hole with the hinges on and you can see half of the hole in front of the bumper where the gap is so wide.

Hopefully that's all it is.

Cheers

Ben

Ben when I got my repair panel the lip is angled down and away from the car. The parts that are most angled were the outside corners where the holes for the bumper are can go take a pic if needed
