Also, forgot to mention, the gap on the front of the repair piece to the door looks a little tight. This is because the penetration on the back of the welds is stopping it sitting tighter to the b post so once i have the welds ground up, the gap will open up nicely.

Well today i finished up welding the join between the quarter panel and the bottom repair piece that i tacked on the other day.
It didn't go completely without problems and i ended up with a slightly wavy join so had to spend almost 2 hours with the body file, a hammer and various dollys to pick up the low spots and get it all level.
Here is the finished article
As you can see, it's pretty good but will unfortunately need a fine skim of filler to make it perfect. I was tempted to work the metal some more as it's so damn close to perfect but i fear that if i do, it will become overworked and then i won't be able to do anything with it at all.
The next job was to clamp the quarter panel back on so i can mark the cut lines for the B and C posts. before i did, i straightened out the cut ends on the quarter panel as they were a bit jagged where the posts had been cut roughly when the red donor was chopped up.
Then once marked up, i removed the quarter again to cut the marker lines
Then after they were trimmed, i popped the panel back on again to check it all lines up.
The good news is that now i have cut the joins in, it has closed up the gap between the door and quarter and also even out lovely so i am pleased with that
Nice and tight, just what i was after.
More tomorrow hopefully
Cheers
Ben

You clearly have the patience of a saint to do such a good job of cleaning up the welds leaving only a little need for filler!

Got the worst job ever tomorrow...
Cleaning off all of the red paint back to bare metal. God knows what it was painted with but its thick and doesn't spin off with an abrasive pad but just smudges and makes a mess.
Oh well, onwards and upwards

Just went out to the garage to get something and noticed a load of dents in the quarter panel that i swear weren't there before so i marked them up with a pen to remind me
No idea how they got there but they will now need addressing before the panel can be welded on. another setback

Ill get them planished out tomorrow and get the body file out again.
i'm annoyed that there will be filler in the bottom of the panel so i defiantly don't want it all over the panel!
