Great tutorial for the inner wings as I'll soon be doing this when my bits arrive.

I thought i had better start grinding down those plug welds. I was going to leave it for a while because it's the most exhausting job on the car but i got it down.
After 40 mins, i was half way through
And then a little while later, i had it all done and cleaned up.
And after a go over with the filament brush to feather all the edges
Next job was to weld up all of the unwanted holes in the inner wing. I marked them out with masking tape comparing it with the old one. The blue circle on one of the bits of tape is to tell me that the hole beside it needs making bigger to match the old panel.
Here they are welded up. I just filled the holes with weld rather than weld in bits of steel.
No amount of weld would fill the big hole so i made up a metal disk to weld in
And as if by magic
And there is the hole i had to open up a bit
Next, i turned my attention to the brackets that fit to the inside of the inner wing for the washer bottle and bonnet prop.
Here is the old rusty bonnet prop bracket
I didn't take a picture of the washer bottle bracket but it was a mess. Someone has previously fitted a piece of inner wing and just roughly bodged the brackets back on.
I could have re-used it but i had this in my box of tricks
Its off of that SPI shell i cut up and it's in much better condition.
So i split it from the old bit of metal
Then cleaned it up, zinc primed it and clamped it in place using the old panel to measure from. I also zinc primed the area of inner wing behind it
Then welded it and cleaned it up
And then i tried on the washer bottle
next was the bonnet prop bracket.
I split it from the old inner wing
it looks too far gone but it's still plenty thick enough and cleaned up fine
here it is cleaned up and welded on
Then i cleaned the whole area up and gave it a coat of Zinc. I lashed it on round the brackets so it would creep under the brackets where it will have burnt off during welding.
Tomorrow, ill make up some new wiring tags to go on it and then it's about done.
I also got this the other day
Its an old server tower. i got rid of the server racking and made some shelves instead. It's really handy and it's on castors too so can be moved around.
Oh, and it was FREE!!!
Cheers
Ben

I'll say it again, the level of detail and thinking going into this is superb.
