I hate it when it goes tits up, be better tomorrow when your fresh

Hope so mate.

I might put the shell back on it's side and then work standing inside the car.

Half the problem is the working height with it like it is and having to contort myself into an awkward angle and still not being able to really see what i'm doing.

I would defintely move the car, I struggle sometimes then move the car on the jig and all of a sudden it is so easy and I wonder why I stood there for the last hour struggling, inexperience I suppose.

Hi Ben,

Hope you are well. Just to say be very careful welding around the gutter area. The heat runs up to the roof skin and buckles it. I spot welded my new roof on and despite making every effort to keep the roof skin cool, I had to spray some putty on it to get it bang on. Mig welding introduces more heat than spot welding so be careful.

Hope that helps, keep up the good work

Best regards,

Pete

Cheers Pete.

I have been very careful with the welding but to be honest i am considering starting this repair again with either another roof corner or a complete roof. I don't think i will ever be happy with this repair.

What i am going to do is carry on with this one for a bit longer and see how it comes out.

If good, leave it and if bad, chop it out and start again.

Cheers

Ben

Done a little today.

Started my putting the Mini back on its side and used a flap disc in the grinder to go over the underside again as some slight surface rust had formed and then Zinc primed the areas where the battery cable channel and brake pipe retainers go.

Then made up some new Brake pipe retainers to replace the old crusty ones.

Whilst that was all drying off, I did the last of the plug welds from the inner sill to the bottom of the companion bin.

and ground up

While i had the grinder in my hand, I ground up some plug welds on the toe board from last year.

Then welded on the brake pipe retainers, ground them up and sprayed them up with zinc

I have lost the battery cable retainer  >_<  I think it's fallen down the back of my bench so i will find it later and weld it on then all i will have to do is zinc up the floor and then that floor will be finished! woo hoo!!!!

More later....

Ben

Great work Ben. Are you zinc priming straight to metal rather than etch priming then?

Zinc primer will only do any good if used directly on bare metal. I don't tend to use anything else at this stage as i find the Zinc primer is pretty much the best thing to keep the corrosion away.

My internal floors have been primed in Zinc since January and are perfect still despite the cold and damp. Other areas that i have left bare metal for just a few days start to rust.

Hi Ben, lovely neat finishing as always, kind of bored by the sight of no welds when I look at your mini :P Hahaha joking of course, I'm as jealous and as envious as everyone else ;p

I wish I could be as clean but I've been feeling a bit butchery recently.

I was reading a catalogue left out at work today (Axeminster) and came across this in it http://www.axminster...ti-rust-coating

I was wondering what you thought of it ? for that price do you think it might be worth buying some and trying it on a sheet piece out side ? It might be too runny though so I was thinking of mixing it with a type of Gel to make a sort of home brew rust agent as daft as it may sound.

Cheers Cliff.

I would be quite interested to see how that stuff performs. If you do try it, perhaps let us know how you get on.

Cheers Carl.

To be honest, i didn't spend any time at all doing them. I just forgot to make them and needed them right then so ended up rushing them a bit.
