Cheers mate.

I am really desperate to get on with the shell but with up and coming work needed in the garage and basement, i have had to load up the shell with parts so it is ready to wheel out when the builders start and not knowing when that is going to be means that i just have to wait :-(

Still all of the little jobs keep me going and are the sorts of things that i otherwise would have kept putting off doing (like the parts in my recent updates)

I have just rebuilt the carb which was a horrible job as it was extremely dirty and took alot of work.

I'm still not 100% happy with the finished result but i need to do some research on how i can get a better finish on the metal, obviously i don't want to paint it and it has to look like it is new.

Here is a before Picture of the Carb. I will try to add a picture of the 'now' later when i can get my mitts on the father in law's camera!

Sod it! decided to take the after photos with the webcam save waiting and then forgetting. Poor quality pics but you get the idea.

Does anyone know of any polish or something that can brighten the metal up better?

hows the project going? Looking good, I have almost finished the body work for my first project shell, just got the doorstep to weld, and the drivers floor to weld and patch a small hole in the passenger floor. Then its pretty much a solid car!! Its our third mini but first project! Body work is my area and has been a breeze really, but taking the engine out next week... nervous about doing a full rebuild. I have my spanner monkey to help but i don't really know where to start! But we will get there i guess, first job will be taking everything apart! Also wondering about painting! as the rear was so solid Im considering only respraying the front myself.... not sure how that will go down though :)

My project has come to a temporary standstill at the moment but i still have quite a way to go. It still needs both front inner wings, o/s inner and outer sills and door aperture, both quarter panels and rear inner arches and a boot floor being the most major things. then it just needs the front  end welding on, an outer sill, front floor pan and door step on the N/S and a few other bits and bobs. So yeah, quite a bit!

Sounds like yours is coming on nicely :-) good luck with the engine rebuild and paint work. I'm sure it will go fine!

Nothing much done on the mini now for a few days apart from de rusting and stripping the front lower arms and tie rods. Not really worth a picture yet. Ill put one up once all the suspension parts are stripped.

Have been busy with the left over scrap from my welding trolley, Used a load of metal tubing from some old fold up chairs to make a work table for my girlfriend to use for her jewellery making.

Cheers

Excellent work mate, brings back a few memories. How much have you left to do?

Quite alot!

Still have both full inner wings, both outer sills, one inner sill, boot floor, rear valance and closing panels, both quarter panels door steps etc plus other bits.

Oh and the front end!

Sounds like alot but if i had the panels to hand to finish the job and spent a week on it, i reckon it would be almost there body wise. Just money lets me down hence the gaps between updates.

Besides this, i can't work on the shell any more yet as i am having alot of work done at home so the garage is out of action for a while.

Cheers

Hi Ben, hope you are well. Every part refurbed is a bit less and by the time the shell is finished, you will be glad you sorted some of the other stuff out. I also agree that autosol can be a bit coarse on softer metals like ally and dural. A fine rubbing compound can often work better but it looks like Carlos has the solution.

Keep up the good work

Pete

Cheers Pete :-) I'm well thanks.

I'm at my mum's at the moment which is just down the road from Carlos but i forgot the carb so ill have to have a chat to him when i visit him next weekend to see what he had in mind.

I know what you mean about doing all these bits while i wait but i'm just eager to get on with the shell. I wanted to get most of the body finished this year but i doubt it now.

Cheers

Ben
