Me too. It may need a new column as some muppet in the past welded the steering wheel to the column so the upper column bushing may be impossible to replace. I only added the ignition barrel and cowling and bolted it in so im not sure. The guy is a Mini specialist so has spare columns if it needs one.

A few pics of the Jiffy from the weekend and MITP.
Fresh back from the MoT station with a shiney new front bumper.
And on the stand at MITP (also with everybody from TMF crammed on the back for a lap round the campsite the night before!)
It performed with a cough and a splutter all weekend and unfortunately that became terminal before I had even left Santa Pod on Sunday...

That's a shame about the engine.
Any ideas what is the cause?

Headgasket failure between 3 and 4 as diagnosed by Shifty. Seems likely as I was having trouble with number 4 and a stuck exhaust valve meaning it was backfiring through the carb so there was probably excess pressure. Number 3 was a touch low on compression when I tested it last too. Ill put a compression tester on it tonight and see what happens.
Youre quite determined to sell me that engine arent you Shifty??

I knew I was right!!!
I'd be tempted to pull the valves out and give them a lap in as well. Even better would be get the head reconn'd

I havent pulled the head yet so you may not be right yet I only know that 3 was a bit low when I compression tested it about a week ago and it was only running on two cylinders when it died.
'Apparently' the head was reconditioned when the PO had it. He had unleaded seats put in and reassembled it with a couple of new valves. Im starting to think the valves werent lapped and it was a half-arsed job.

Been busy for a few weeks so I pulled the head today after doing a compression test. The compression test was as follows:
1: 160psi
2: 150psi
3: 150psi
4: 110psi
Clearly something wrong with 4. Head whipped off in about an hour (at least the OHV design has some benefit) and performed a leak test. I stuck some paraffin in all the chambers and didnt even have time to walk away before the exhaust valve started leaking out of the port of number 4. 30 minutes later and it was bone dry. The others all had a slight loss of fluid too after an hour or so.
Took it all apart and lapped the valves and stuck it back together and now its sat full of paraffin again. Been about 30 minutes so far and all is good.
Its raining now so I wont get the head back on today but once it stops I will put it back together and see what happens.
