Purchased door seals for my '84 City E. I was planning on just putting the join at the top and working my way round.

However, the seals from minispares have 2 cut outs of the bulbus rubber that creates the seal (about a foot from either end).

I suppose my question is where are these cut outs intended to go? For around the corners? To miss the check strap?

I'm not sure :shy:

And if anyone has tips for refitting, I would be greatful. :D

Many thanks, Jack.

Edit; Thinking about this, it should probably go in the bodywork section... mods feel free to move.

The notches line up with the door drain holes in the bottom edge of the door, so the water draining from the door doesn't collect on top of the seal. The joint goes at the bottom centre. In the old ones there may be a tube inside the seal to join the two ends of the seal section together, if it's there keep it and re-use it.

Don't cut it, it IS the right length (it will shrink later) and don't stretch it as you fit it. Push it into the corners as much as you can.

Many thanks Dan, just the answer I was after! A great reply as always! I feel a bit silly now really... I suppose it's obvious. :shy:

Done them fine, looks a good seal! Just used the palm of my hand to make sure it was seated properly.
Dare I say, all I need now is rain....

I had this concern, however the length is negligable.... must be about 3 or 4 inches to long! and my doors have holes drilled at the bottom outside edge by the door skin, no drain holes above the rubber on the inside of the door... I can see these gaps letting in a lot of water if I drive through any sort of water   can anyone put my mind at rest?

recently had too long door seals, they werent genuine seals..about 4" longer..

Place it so the rubber seals starts from approx the middle of the door where the crossmember begins, but start pushing it in place from top 90° corner then go round. Cut the excess once finished. If using a rubber mallet to get it tight in place, dont use brute force or the seal will bend outwards (or inwards) and will be damaged.

This is what i did but still concerned about those cutouts as my doors dont have drainage points over the seal

There should be 3 little 4mm holes under the door frame close to the door skin
