Nice build and Clubman! I checked out your shop too...will likely need a center consoles once mine Mini arrives stateside. I'm a couple hours away around Hampton, VA.

What did you use for the gold bulkhead insulation?

I used to live in VA up until 4 years ago. Used to visit Hampton, VA every November down at Cooper Tune for the Turkey run with the club. Haven't been down for a while now. If your ever in the area let me know. The gold insulation is made by DEI. Bit pricey, but I am happy with it. I used hust mat/boom mat for the inside of the firewall, it's almost 3/4" thick, self adhesive with foil liner.

Your engine dead or ok?

Eh, yes and no. Compression came up a bit, but rings are shot in 4. So it is what it is. Was hoping I could have gotten some use out of the engine for summer/fall before I swapped in a d16 sohc with turbo. But looks like I will just be focusing on acquiring the necessary stuff for the swap at this point and hopefully enjoying the car in spring 2016.... I did put a nice nissan gtr carbon spoiler on the car.... as a joke!

Ahhh that's a shame. D16 will be nice. Building the motor or just going low boost?

Not sure what you get over there but here most use the d16z6 and go low boost fast spooling turbo pushing 200bhp. Anything more and the rods/Pistons begin to suffer.

Must say though they do loose the character without an A-series.

After building a few Honda swaps, and suzuki swaps... yes it is different, wouldn't say it looses character. I just think for the money and the power I want the A-series in the USA can't compete. And yes, z6 low boost for start, should keep me happy for a bit.

Other than that just been playing around with the trabant more. Atleast I have a "backup" car to tide me over for family cruising needs.

Eh, it's a little grubby, but I think it should polish up okay. D16y8 with Greddy TDo4h turbo kit. Going to do a top mount intercooler, a few other goodies, still deciding between neptune and hondata, leaning towards hondata since there seems to be more shops that can support it around here for tuning down the road.

Had a garage warming with the Mini club this past Saturday, was a lot of fun to say the least. Here are a few pics I took:

So, trying to finish fabricating the frame by next week if I am lucky. The turbo stuff is adding another layer of complexity with packaging while trying to retain a stock front, non removable. But I'm gonna give it a good shot. The frame I have reworked, and pulled a total of 3.5" out of the front of it. Not pictured yet is cutting out left bar to make room for radiator, fabbing coilover mounts, and last making a beefy rear mount since I will be eliminating the front mount. Fun times.

Thanks, took me a solid 6 months to build it working every other night on it. Glad it is for the most part done, and I can do some work in there. I wouldn't say engine swaps are my thing, even though I have done around 5 or so now. I gave the A-series a good run in here, had the 1098 for the past 3 years or so. But I was always looking for more power. The D-Series you just can't compare to. Right now I'm sitting at 190bhp, looking to crack 200, maybe 215 or so. I have $500 invested into the swap... can't really do that with a A-Series in the USA. Just makes sense to me for my goals.
