Some people do bodge things on cars, cutting a wheel in half and welding it back together with an added piece is something which should only done by people who know what they are doing and aren't going to bodge it together! People do bodge things like this but they soon learn

A banded steel wheel, properly done by an expert, is far safer than any alloy wheel will ever be.

Those Metro wheels do seem to be well made, and look nice!

Just curious, why is banding so popular vs re-shelling / re-hooping the wheel? Maybe it's a US thing, while there are a few places that might band, there is just as many that could re-hoop them. You simple pick your size, I went with 13x7, and cut the center out, then tigged them into the new hoop with the backspacing I needed. Just curious?

I think the reason people band the 10" wheel for example rather than re-hoop them is due to the fact that there are no 6-7" wide 10inch steel rims in existance as standard.

Apart from 6" Wellers... they even made their own reverse rim esque steel wheels that were just standard 10" steel centres with Weller 'hoops'.

I've always thought it wouldn't be that hard for someone to make a set from some Wellers and some standard steelies, but the originals seem rare as rocking horse excrement.

Not for mini wheels, but I thought he was very reasonable on price
