Morning Guys and Gals.

Just after a little guidance on the electrics on my 1988 mini. Basically the wipers, screen wash do not work on the stalk and nor dose the heater. I have bench tested them all via a live and earth straight from the battery and they work that way.

i have found that the number 3 fuse isn't getting power to it, (3rd fuse down) so again with a live straight from the battery to that fuse they all work from the stalk and switches as they should. The fuse is fine and ive tested it by putting it in to the other three terminals that also work.

So my question is, where dose number three terminal get its power from? also if i find that i can't get power via its normal place could i get power from some where else and plug into that terminal on the fuse box?

Many thanks in advance

Keith

PS i have followed this wiring Diagram with little success, unless you can point out any thing for me to check.

Fuse 3 gets its power from the ignition switch via the LG/W (light green with white tracer) wire coming into the LH side of he fuse box in your picture. The power then goes out the RH side via the LG/O ( light green with orange tracer) to the wipers/ washer stalk switch, and heater motor switch. There should also be a second LG/O wire from this fuse terminal direct to the wiper motor, to allow the park function to operate.
The diagram you have is too old for your car.
Haynes Manual would be better.

So its the LG/W (light green with white tracer) wire thats my little bugger. And this come straight from the ignition key is that correct or dose it come from another ignition part?

Sorry if i sound as thick as Harvey price, im more a motorbike guy (damn sight easier to work on)

Yes direct from the ignition switch, will only have power when the ignition is on, key in position one. Key in position 2 will power up fuse 1. Fuse 2 is live all the time courtesy of the Brown wire. Fuse 4 is for the side lights and only has power when the light switch is in the first position.
Fuse ratings (for standard car)
1 35a
2 20a
3 20a
4 15a

by the way who's Harvey price!

That's great, many thanks you've given me another excuse to hide from the wife this week end.

Best to google Harvey Price, he is the model Jordan's son.

Thanks you for your info A-Cell, its all working now. The reason why the wipers, washer bottle and the heaters wasnt working was because that LG/W (light green with white tracer) wire on the ignition had a dirty connector so wasn't making a good circuit. thought id try n find out why it was so black so took the wiper motor apart and found that the coil inside the magnet had burnt out so replaced that with a good one that i had in the shed.

So once again thank you. ;-)
