You could always leave the chrome as it is to give it some patina?

Re-chroming would be less cost effective I asked a price to get a mk1 grille and tosh done it was around £200. The rest of the build is looking sweet now

Some powder coaters do zinc/epoxy prime before colour but this is a powder coated primer, an aerosol/wet spray primer shouldnt be used prior to powder coat. Also the chrome powder coat is good for certain applications but it is no where near the same and would stand out like a sore thumb on a mustache. Looking forward to seeing it painted!

Hi tom..... If they ain't started it I'd be tempted to take it elsewhere or at least have it back home until they do have the time

Cheers j

It depends of you are paying going rate or they are doing it as a fill in job at cheaper rates, if you take it out they may charge for work already done, if you are in no rush and know the quality of work then easier than trying to find someone else you can trust.
Maybe offer to go down and help with some flatting may encourage them to speed it up

he does lovelly work i have only used him two times to paint my bootlid and rear quarter on my mini so i could test him before painting my mini and he did nice work even washed my car and that.. ino he has got lots of cars there and awaiting. but when he first come to pick it up he said 3 to 4 weeks i will have it back its been now nearly 2 months to be honest i am in no rush to get it back as its giving me time to save some money together to pay him and buy parts for it. but i am so bored at home on nights not being able to do anything thats why i have started on my other mk1 keep me busy lol. i think i will text him tomorrow and just say how you getting on with it?

also while i am on here i dropped the engine of today at my mates who rebuilt my engine before and while we was there we stripped so much of it and thankfully its not seized but may need new piston rings and re ported while stripped down i will be leaving the engine for jez to rebuild as he really does know hes stuff. so the project is at that stage of paying money out and waiting for it all to arrive back. ino once i get the mini back the misses will be back moaning again!  :mmkay:

i can confirm the engine is now in a million bits, and i am filthy! that was one of the grubbiest engines i have ever seen!

although after a quick look at the engine there is no visible damage from years of standing. i expected to see rust in the bores and on other areas where oil would have run away from a long time ago. it is however pretty good.

there is some scoring from debris that has got into the oil though, ill know more tomorrow when i have had a cloer look.

Engine is now having the full treatment Jez would have to mention what's being done as I have no idea what's what on rebuilding a engine. New piston rings and all cleaned up. I have messaged painter and said its nearly ready for paint so not sure how long going to be now. Should it really take this long? ThAnks Tom

Dunno, did mine myself in a couple of days haha.

I'd be annoyed by now if I was paying for it to be done!
