Looking good mate. How rotten is the rest of the car? Is it as bad as the floor?

Looks like an interesting thread anyway, will be following.

if I was you my next step would be to think logically what does the floor weld to ? toe board, headboard door steps ect I would see what they are like and do them next so the shell can have the floor welded in then the shell will have regained a lot of strength, then I would worry about stripping the car down any further

You can get them cheaper buying the floor halves and tunnel and welding together but the full £500 floor comes with outer sills and heal board in line as it should be so takes the guess work out of it when you have as little reference points as you do

I've had an idea of how you can cut the boot off, and everything under it, all in one go: take off the boot lid wire, then just let the lid drop, im sure most of it will come off in one go ;D

After seeing it earlier it does need some love, but it will be so worth the effort, especially being a Mk1!

thanks. it needs alot of work but as its my first time doing something this bad! it makes me think it impossible to rebuild

Nah it's not impossible, I thought that about mine, and I'm sure there I much worse out there. If you put your mind to something it can work. It's justs awesome to see someone wanting to keep another classic alive!

I forgot to mention how much sweeping up is needed in this sort've restoration...! Something I did a few times was use an existing panel that was slightly rotten just as a reference. It would be in the right place & basically strong enough to hold. I would screw the new panel to it, then replace all those around it. The passenger doorstep & was an example. I screwed the new floor to it, welded up the floor completely, then took out the passenger doorstep.Hope that makes sense.
