Would seam welding the seams not risk distortion and poor fit?

I haven't been on this site for a while, just had a quick flick through and you're making some great progress.
Keep up the good work.
Andrew.
thanks andrew have not spoke to you for a while! i hope you have got another mini??
hi mate the front panel is really good and fits well. the rear panel yes m machine do a mk1 rear panel but its about £380.00 or more. i just mentioned what i had left and she said i may aswell buy the cheaper mk1 panel and use the bottom section of it.. have you sorted your rear panel now? how you getting on? thanks tom
and yes m machine modified it
it going ok thanks Tom, the mini is going backwards but life is good :)
Yeah, im going to get a complete back panel from them, as there more rust than i thought up in the roof and gutter areas. Was wondering what the quality of the welding and fit was where m machine did the work?
the rear panel fitted well after i cut it around the rear window and it all lined up nice across the boot floor edging where the bumper holes sit.. the front panel has been done very good and has been modified really well. thanks tom

Hi Tom,
I do believe they do yes, it goes along the top side of the tank as i remember on mine so very similar to the mk3>
Giving M-machine a ring should clafify this, and means you can order the exact same time aswell you see .
Keep at it T, nearly there :)

Maybe I got the wrong end of the stick, I thought you were contemplating welding the seams between the front panels.

Hey Tom,
Just came across this thread and thought you might be intrested in having a look as it shows the photos of a mk1 fuel tank starp system and boot floor mounting brackets in place.
It's about half way down the page:
