thanks mate not bad for my first time got there in the end lol what i was going to do is weld the joins up and then grind a groove and shape it to make it a gap again but it will never crack and keep the water out the seem? what you think??

hi daz cheers mate i thought by welding them it would make them stronger and i wont get any cracks in the paint work once its on the road shacking about. i only thought of it as the front subframe is bolted to the front panel. thanks tom

Like Daz said, It will be difficult to weld it and then get the seam line looking right. At most you can tack it at 1 inch intervals along the seam and then grind them back and V them out with a thin cutting disc.
A good sealant will be sufficient.
If you are worried about strength, then you can weld the seam from behind.
I would definitely avoid fully welding the seam from the outside. You will just create a tonne more work.

thanks for that daz i didnt really want to use sealant i wanted to do it like it was original and leave the metal line showing so it looks like it was when they was made but i was just wondering if i welded them up and grinded and etc to make them look more better... cheers tom

Hope you don't mind me asking, but did m machine modify your front panel for you? I spoke to them yesterday, and they can modify the rear window aperture to mk1 size if you want. I was wondering what the quality of the front panel was like if they have worked on it?
You cant be far away from paint now Tom?

hi mate the front panel is really good and fits well. the rear panel yes m machine do a mk1 rear panel but its about £380.00 or more. i just mentioned what i had left and she said i may aswell buy the cheaper mk1 panel and use the bottom section of it.. have you sorted your rear panel now? how you getting on? thanks tom

it going ok thanks Tom, the mini is going backwards but life is good :)
Yeah, im going to get a complete back panel from them, as there more rust than i thought up in the roof and gutter areas. Was wondering what the quality of the welding and fit was where m machine did the work?
