Also on your tank if I remember correct yours is the early one with bolt in sender unit, the later type is not interchangeable as the gauge won't work, so make sure you find the correct one. You can fit later one but you need the gauge and a voltage stabiliser.

This tread is the best! You put some serious effort in this and reading some of the earlier posts, you have to be how proud of the results.
Thanks for all the documenting, your thread is a huge help for me on my mk1. Good source of motivation!

Hi Tom,
i'm a french guy, (sorry for my English), i just create a account to say to you, that you are a F..... CRAZY GUY !!!
What a incredible work you've accomplished.
I walkthrought your thread, this isn't a restauration, this is a reconstruction !!!
When i've seen the first photos i've thinked, that you will stop the work, because it's was too hard... but you didn't
I am jealous and at the same time a big fan of your work !!! If only I could do 1 / 10th of your work mine would be at the top !!!
Great, great, great and unbelievable JOB.
Thanks for sharing your photos and experience !
Merry Christmas.
Olivier.
