hey guys , so i have been tidying my taping my loom up on my mini but i have come across a problem , i worked from the alternator back and come to the starter loom the wires but as i unravelled it the white and yellow cable looks like its been cut :s i carnt seem to find a cable in the loom for it anywhere

what year is your car? did it work fine before? I think it could be a 12v bypass for the coil looking at an old post on here.

1989 , it looks like it should connect to the starter solinoid to be honest as there is a small spade terminal there

Looks Like the one i wired for rev counter but I'm not to clever so don't take my word for it! :)

It is indeed the cranking bypass for ballasted ignition. If your car has been updated to one of certain types of electronic ignition or had a plain 12v ignition coil fitted then you don't need it. It should be insulated and taped back to the loom at both ends, as your unused tacho connection (white / black) has at the coil position.

1989 willhave a ballasted ignition. There will be a pink and white wire with resistive written on it which is the wire used to power the coil once the engine is started, and a yellow and white wire on turn over to give the coil 12v when cranking. (it wont be the full 12v as the starter motor uses a lot of power so usually about 10v)
as said above, this is all true if the ignition system is standard, if it has been converted to electronic, ask someone else
