Well it leaks absolutely everywhere and I mean everywhere. I know it's a mini but a fully recondition unit shouldn't piss oil everywhere after 5 miles. It also has a crunch in second gear, jumps out of 4th occasionally and yes it was a reconditioned box too. Other than that as far as parts go and any other experience with them they've been great

I think Summs has errrr...... summed it up nicely,

It depends what you're after. Though it won't be anyone who rests on past laurels, look at the various Mini race championships to see who is still getting the results, or who is innovating new products.

In Northern Ireland - I highly recommend Alan Roddys country garage in Ballymoney, co. Antrim. (Works along with Steven Gault, SG performance). He drives his own rally mini and builds car for hillclimbs.

Mans a perfectionist when it comes to building engines!

If Im honest, I've called several times with various question and they don't know the answer. I called a while ago to find out what worm and pinion gears I had as my speedo was reading wrong. They told me and I then did some calculations via the guess work website and bought a new speedo to match the TPM that i should have had with the ratio they said. But it also read out so I did some calculations again and worked out that the worm and pinion ratio fitted was actually completely different to what I had been told so I guess they just gave me a random number to shut me up. As far as the jumping put of gears went they blamed it on my carpet when I didn't even have any... And my engine mounts which are all new and have been checked several times. The oil leaks they said would stop after a couple of hundred miles. I have now done over a thousand on it and it leaks even more. The head gasket even leaks and I have had the head torqued 3 times. So I have given up on hassling them because I never get a straight answer and I also live in Scotland so I can't exactly run it down to them. But as I say other than that, such as with parts they have been pretty good.

Where is best in the north west?

Phil Hepworth (ex Howley Racing) for competition engines (his engine beat all the over priced Swifty engined cars at Donington in the first HSCC round of Historic Touring Cars last month), Phil is in Sale , Manchester. and for engine rebuilds in the North West try Jim at : http://www.racemotorsport.co.uk/

Best cylinder heads : Brett Sims
