Hi all, I need to replace my door steps, but have a few questions before I order the panels.

I'm going to order the genuine door step repair panel - http://www.minisport..._HMP441012.html

and later on in the project I will be replacing the flitch panels using this panel assembly - http://www.minisport..._ABD360200.html

However I'm unsure when I need to replace the a-post stiffener. My mini has been chopped about and I'm not sure what it is supposed to look like.

1. Is this a-post stiffener inc in the flitch panel assembly?
http://www.minisport.com/mini-spare-parts/info_08-01-278.html
2. Can the stiffener be replaced after the door step has been replaced given I'm replacing the flitch, or does it need to be replaced first?
3. Does the stifferer fit in as pictured below?

4. If so, how is this join between the stiffener and door step sealed / welded?

My drivers side stiffener looks to be missing after a bodge repair from a previous owner and the gap between the door step and flitch was filled with filler

But it is visible on my passengers side where the door step has rusted away ( spot a-panel hanging off, previously glued to flitch using a piece of angel iron)

Any help, advice or pics appreciated

Chris

thanks and don't worry it'll be heritage all the way!!

I've been checking peoples build threads and it seems possible to fit the stiffener after the step, as (like you say) the important bit is too line up the holes between the stiffener and the flitch.

I pinched these pics from Scott's build thread:

The best method for this is as per pictures. Take lots of measurements first cut the doorpost/ step 5mm shy of where the new panel will fit then carefully trim back to cut lines you have made, tack in the post/step then hold the door in the frame this is the most important part the mini was built around the doors adjust as needed then fully weld in you now know the door fits the frame. Get the stiffener and bolt it to the door as that is the panel that has the hinge holes in, fit the door back in the frame with the stiffener on using spacers around the door to get the gap good and tack the stiffener in from behind to the door post this will ensure the correct alignment remove the door and mark the stiffener location. Break the tacks and drill lots of holes on the post mating surface clamp the stiffener back in and plug away

There may be a better way but that is how I did it door fitment is key hope this helps
